Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

How soon can I start a new job?

Is there a time requirement between getting severance from CVX and starting a new job?

Screw these guys below. Do both jobs bro. Nobody going to sue you for it. Low oil price, and your not worth it. Chevron ain't going to spend their time and money in high lawyers fee to sue you for sc-aps. Just get paid both ways until your EOI check comes in and keep your mouth shut to both coworkers. Thank me later. Take some risk in life bro, will do you wonders

A new employer who is willing to hire you should know how the severance pay thing works. If you are forthcoming with this as the reason for starting with them as soon as you are technically off the Chevron payroll, they will wait for you and not demand you begin sooner.

Don’t risk your severance pay. YES! They will withhold it and let you go. You can line the job up, but do not start work until you have your at your “end date”. It is unethical and not worth the risk. Don’t listen to the others. Now, IF your severance is less important than you having a steady paycheck then that’s a choice only you can make.

Haha. No such thing. I have never meet a friendly HR partner. You may work in HR but you are not friendly and you don’t care about employees unless they are a GM or higher. The only reason why you care about GM and higher is because they control your faith.

Nah bro, dont listen to the scrubs below. They won't find out, its not illegal, and Chevron can afford it. Look what they pay the executives, this ain't Oxy, they got the money honey. So i say get yours. Even if they do figure it out, its costs way too much in legal fees to come after you. So get yours.

You can line up a new job outside of Chevron right now if you like. Maybe if you did put in your EOI or suspect strongly you will be laid off, it is advisable you start interviewing right away. If you are offered a position elsewhere, and you are still awaiting your severance pay, id let the new employer know your start date with them needs to be postponed until after you are officially off the Chevron payroll. You shouldn’t risk losing your severance because you started working for another employer too soon.

Guys, it's unethical (or even illegal if you go work for a competitor) to start a new job while you are still employed. Even during re-deployment, you cannot start your new job (as long as you are still on the payroll).

Technically BS! Start whenever your new company or yourself wants to. They are letting you go, the contract has become an ex-contract. It’s done, do what makes sense for you.

Technically you should wait until you leave then start the next day. With that said you could start now if you could do it all virtual but if they find out you could loose your severance or even your new job.

No. Start a new job whenever you want. The severance is just trying to make sure you’re covered until you find something.
