Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Who all thinks Walmart will be closing at night?

It's certianly looking that way. I think this COVID ordeal has been used to excuse and justify a lot of changes, both already in progress, and more to come. On line shopping and rampant shop lifting have already cost the company untold millions.
What are your thoughts? Think the stores will be gradually phasing out over nights?

There are several stores that started closing at night a couple of years ago. Those stores stock in the day.

'Manager on Duty' is the hourly associate be it CSM, TL, Support manager, academy trainer who is trained to close and open the store. In the event of an emergency or an ASM calling off. They will primarily be used in Neighborhood Markets and Division One stores where volume doesn't justify more than 2 or 3 salaried managers altogether. Our people at my Super Center are going through the training, too as it's job code specific. The only time I can think of us needing that here is if COVID gets out of control and mgrs get sick or we have more riots and unexpectedly close the store.

@5wsh+15Ny1xcl Quick question on that. I use to work for Walmart before the whole COVID got ugly. I use to be a night stocker. I was in some training and just came back. I been wanting to go to the store I use to work in to see how everyone was doing. My question is did they cut night stockers hours? When I passed I noticed less cars than before so I take it they cut the night stockers and cleaning crew. I am curious with all this changes how they have affected people at night if they come earlier or same schedule hours cuts etc.

We recently started closing at 10:00 p.m. When it goes to 11:00 p.m. I bet it will be permanent.

Where I live the two stores would benefit greatly by closing at night. Retail theft is terrible here, and we just lost a Kroger that had been here for 60 years due to that. I don't think you have to be an accountant to just glance at the numbers and see which model keeps WM in the black or red, lol

I think manager on duty is part of GWP. Hourly supervisors such as CSMs, Supports, and Team Leads will assist in things ASMs currently do.

I always questioned the need to stay open 24 / 7. We would told not everyone works 9-5, and people like the convince of shopping off hours. A certain % of sales were to happen between midnight and 6 am, but all it took was one TV to go out the doors or a cart full threw a fire door to blow those sales. Stores should go 7 am to 11 pm, when things get back to normal, if that ever happens.
