Managers told to lie about Belk’s impending doom

Managers are told to pretend everything is “rainbows and ponies” and act like the store is making its numbers.

"Not true at all. Belk does inventory over a 3-4 day period and all scheduled participating associates are assigned a 6 hour shift; 4am-10am to not disrupt business. I’m sure no catered breakfasts prior to the start time for managers. Physical inventory requires a lot of planning and is by far one of the most critical days, (or multiple), for all. I have been an associate at two Belk locations over a 10 year span. We arrived to fresh coffee, juice, various fruits, muffins, energy bars, etc., all prepared and set up by management team. Yes, legal fifteen minute paid break, and again refreshments to energize. What Belk location do you work for? "

What location DID I work for? I left months ago and never looked back. If I get specific it gets deleted. Just like the insulting video of you exec's lounging at home acting like we're all in this together, while the store people are facing the deadliest pandemic in 100 years– I post the link to belk's facebook and it gets ripped immediately. Why? Aren't you proud of yourselves?

I'd love to do a tell-all, complete with map coordinates and call out names, but that is not how this site works.

I told you like it was for us associates. Our "shift" ran from 4am-2:30pm. No break. Toilet trips monitored/proctored, No "energizing Associates", just one plain biscuit and 1 half bottle of water while you keep scanning. "Don't stop moving," they said. No lunch break at all. Associates called Excel on the no lunch thing. The Sycamores decided it was an "isolated", "unusual" and "necessary" case, thus, no repercussions.

Managers got a sit-down breakfast, and I do mean sit. The store manager sat alot. And you talkin' bout some sittin' aroun' that office computer and complaining how slow everything is going!

At the end of the day, managers sat around the conference room enjoying a a full lunch provided by Belk coin.

Please, respond, get nasty if you like (calling people "genius"..really?) but keep it civil this time, would you? It just gets deleted, anyway, if you don't.

I can assure you in my five years at belk, I have never arrived to fresh coffee, fruit, and energy
Bars for inventory. And the reason Belk forces employees to do inventory and not an outside company is because Belk “cooks the books” and if an outside company did inventory then it would involve a potential 3rd party if it became a legal matter. Belk is by far the worst company I have ever worked for in my 57 years, no other company has even come close to being how bad belk is, so please spare me this cheerleader bullshyt.

Well not all are the same. We have never arrived to any food there already waiting on us. One Sunday we worked 7am until 1pm and some until 2pm with no break. This was for inventory. No breakfast waiting for us and no lunch ordered for us. Stomachs growling like damn tigers by the time we left.

The are and have been cheating people. Prime example: This year at inventory, management got a full, sit down breakfast early and catered lunch to close the day. Associates scanned items for 10 hours straight, were not allowed breaks, got timed in the restroom, and were generously offered a plain biscuit and one of those mini bottles of non-chilled water.

Bread and water. Sound like a prison?

The only reason a company is not transparent is if they have something to hide or if they are trying to cheat people. Period.

Has it occurred to you that the person that you keep referring to as the corporate shill may be more than one person? That's right my friend, I am a whole different person, and I'm not a she. So guess what genius, that means that more than one person are telling you that this is not true. We have not been instructed to lie, and I at least, do not work for corporate. Oh and in case you're new to business 101, private companies do not have to report financials. Should they? Yeah, probably. I worry all the time how the company is doing. Is it fair that we are expecting more of associates, and not giving raises or reviews? No, it's not. And I am not overly thrilled that I got a pay cut either. These are the times we live in. I really hope things get better. Only time will tell...

Belk lies because they have a hiring freeze and don’t want employees to quit, if they are so honest why didn’t they release the exact number of employees laid off? Why did they send an email to managers, but not anything to associates? Why do they take away PTO time? Why do they re-write job duties on a whim? Why don’t they release their finances? Why do they force employees to do jobs of other employees and not give a raise? Shall I keep going??

I'm not a corporate shill and I doubt the other commenter is either. This is not true. I have not, nor have any of my co-managers been instructed to lie about...well anything. I sincerely apologize if this disrupts your conspiracy theories.
