Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Remote Layoff Process

I've just been briefed about the remote layoff process that will start in the next month or so. You will receive a call from your Director, an HR rep, and an Outplacement specialist conferenced in. You will be told your position has been eliminated and that your severance agreement will be sent to you. Then the HR specialist will chime in and explain the severance package that will be sent out to you. You will then be asked asked if there are any questions at which point they will point you to the severance agreement that you will receive. You will then hear from the Outplacement specialist who will explain their 'transition services'.

You will then get your personal effects sent to you via UPS and will get another prelabled box for you to send back any GM-owned equipment. Upon receipt of these items, GM will then be able to start sending your severance checks, including the loan plus 5% that you have been providing in form of reduced paychecks.

That's what I know so far. I haven't received any details about who is going or when but that will come soon.

The takeaway here is that it is possible that there could be another layoff soon based on the poor vehicle sales that may continue if these covid surges continue along with the unemployment. If it is not a lay-off, there could be more pay cuts or benefit cuts including charging again for 8th level “free” vehicles. Prudent employees would start getting their resumes prepared and start looking at job opportunities. As seen in the prior GM lay-off, the leadership admitted that they are not targeting those that are poor or mediocre performers; instead it is more about how GM values your particular job function.

The CEO would not be publicly stating that she sees no need for layoffs if this plan were in the works. Not with the scrutiny GM receives from the world's most famous Twitter account.

Sad but true. Mostly 8th, 9T’s + Fellows who are not involved with autonomy and BEV. GM no longer values old tech expertise. Warm bodies only in GM’s future.

Well hire a foreign troll firm to post news that is not true to make this site a less reliable source of information.

For the foreign troll firms; hire a native English speaking person to proof your entries. It will make them look more reliable.

GM has no capability to do innovation work for next 10 years because of their laid off some talented employees one year ago. Their reputation and capability have been destroyed by that “stupid” action. Good luck GM!

I’d imagine layoffs would be announced to the investors/media before it is to us. Gives us about a week to find something new but better then nothing

I can see it now. HR business partners are having meetings at 5:45 and running right to an anonymous blog to post about everything they’ve learned in a confidential meeting about internal policy. You post this on your GM laptop or on a company phone?

So you’ve just been briefed huh? Really? Must’ve been really important since all of Gm is on vacation this week. Good one Trolly McTrollston! Tell us more! Tell us the size of the box where we fill it with all the GM goodies that we have to return. And tell us what sanitation wipes we need to use to wipe down all these goodies!

This is garbage. No you did not confirm this. They have said repeatedly that for at least the salaried they will not have a workforce reduction only that normal attrition will not be back filled. This is bogus information and you’re a troll.
