Thread regarding Sabre Holdings layoffs

Does Sabre payout unused PTOs?

I was furloughed and got called back to work starting July. However, I plan to leave the company in mid-July for personal reasons. Does Sabre payout unused PTOs? If no, I probably will use up my PTO before giving two weeks notice.

Yes Sabre doesn't pay unused PTO when you quit voluntarily but does Sabre pay unused PTO when you're laid off involuntarily?

I left sabre recently and I had 1 week of PTO. They said policy changed in July 2019 and Sabre no longer pays unused PTO when a person voluntarily leave the company.

Does Sabre allow people to take vacation that they haven't accrued yet?

If you decide to take the first 5 weeks of the year as vacation because you can, doesn't that mean it was accrued the previous year?

Can new employees take vacation?

When I started, I had no vacation available at all for the first few months but after a year or so it was accrued and I could take it. So my vacation accruals were based upon the past year of work not upon the next year of work.

If I quit or was laid off I had always expected to receive a payout for all of the current year's unused vacation, until the policy change last year, because all of that vacation was earned/accrued the year before.

Very interested in hearing what the policy really is because if we can owe Sabre vacation time upon leaving then I will start taking Decembers off only.

Adding to the previous post - in fact, you could owe the company money if you've used more PTO time than you have accrued when you leave the company.

Moral of the story - don't go out and take ALL of your remaining PTO days before you leave the company BEFORE you know exactly what the policy entails. Anything you see on this site is hearsay and opinion, including what you are now reading. Do your own research.

Be sure of the policy. I understand that your PTO 'bank' gets refreshed on January 1st; however, you actually accrue that time over the course of the year. If you leave the company, then you would get paid for any unused 'accrued' PTO time.

So, if your PTO bank says you've got 30 unused PTO days for the year, don't expect to get paid for 30 unused PTO days. As we are now past the half-way point of the year, you've only accrued 15 days in this example.

Again, this is my understanding of the policy. Call HR and get clarification before proceeding.

My understanding is if involuntary leave you would be paid. If volunteering then not paid. Pretty sure this changed last year.

Seriously? Is this even legal to NOT pay out earned PTO?

Definitely use up your PTO before giving notice. Sabre changed its policy last year (October 2019) such that PTO will NOT be paid out to those leaving on their own accord.

Good luck!
