IGT/GTECH CORONAVIRUS LAYOFFS

Just to clarify, IGT and GTECH/Lottomatica merged a couple of years ago, and chose the name IGT.
The following is my best recollection so it might have some minor errors:
IGT is located in Nevada and does mostly c-sino machines.
Lottomatica is a huge company in Italy that does lottery (and maybe other gaming), and merged with GTECH many years ago; the Lottomatica was bigger but GTECH was a more familiar name.
The pre-merger GTECH is based in Providence (and W. Greenwich) RI, and is the world leader in lottery systems: all the hardware, software, communications networks (mostly via satellite), service, games, or any subset of the them. Subsidiaries in Canada (video lottery) and elsewhere (instant ticket printing).
Obviously not a good place to work right now, they are just starting to ramp up internet gaming to survive.

After furloughing most of us for 8 weeks and extending the furlough another 4 weeks for some of us, they just did their big layoff. I'd been there for 25 years, 7 as a contractor and 18 as an employee. Got 30 weeks of severance pay, and they will pay the company portion of my health insurance for 30 weeks if I decide to use COBRA.

You guys should see the amount of sh– that ex employees are saying on LinkedIn. It’s pretty funny. I’ve been saying this to my coworkers for awhile now: “it doesn’t matter”.
We can b–ch all we want... as long as the Marco’s, Mario’s, Renato’s, Luigi’s, Pasta’s, Rigatoni’s, and Lasagna’s are making their $1mil +++, “it doesn’t matter”

Company had been going downhill for years. ‘They used the COVID-19 as an excuse to close up shop. Nobody will even take over the slot machine portion of the business since the company is in debt. Put a fork in it and call it done. Game Over for IGT.

Did you get any assistance with career counselling or other severance benefits?

Very sad. Two things to remember: 1. Don't have any loyalty to a co. as they have none for you, 2. The Italians have a long history of failed companies and inability to run them. FCA is an example, as many others in history. IGT's just recent another reorg proves they are still figuring it out even years later. IMO they will eventually sell of the part and might keep Lottery, ending up where they started.

Any word on how many people were affected?

First of all, good luck with your future endeavours. I've been with the company for 15+ years and I have seen the company culture shift into something I no longer recognize or enjoying being part of, there is likely a better opportunity out there for you. Are you able to share which business unit you were let go from?
