Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Wal-Mart Damm near k--led me!

21 years of service - from hourly to Ast. to Co. to my greatest success (my thought) and the worst mistake of my career to Store Manager. Was always that go to associate to go fix processes / procedures at multiple stores. The Mgr. that got things done. The mgr. that supported it's associates and trained other store managers new to their roles.

Avg Ast. Mgr. makes $45k-$55k - I was capped out at $65k
They are doing away with Co. Mgr. so it doesn't matter to list this
Store Mgr. makes $95k-$150k not counting their potential bonuses of $100k (potential yearly)

These store mgrs. and Higher management do it off the backs of Co. / ASt. / hourly associates with out regard to their SAFETY / Their families. These associates do the work because they need the job and it's part of their work ethic. It's not because that person is a good store mgr. ! It's in that associates work ethic to provide for themselves and their families while these store managers / district managers / regionals and higher make their $$ for their lavish lifestyles.

Some store managers don't even have to show up to their stores because of the work ethics of those doing the job.

Walmart does not give a dam about Covid and how it is effecting it's associates as long as you keep shopping at the stores. While their leadership is sitting at home / working from home pushing out direction for the stores to push more sales.

Direction comes down that there should people cleaning / sanitizing / taking temps / etc. etc. and all it is another check list for that store manager to pencil whip and say it's complete. Walmart associates are working for life and are receiving no compensation for it while their leaders are making their lives easier and affordable to leave to another competitor without the worry of missing a beat of their life style that they have built off the backs of underpaid / dedicated hard working associates.

If you make to much money $$$ and are over the age of 40 and a salary manager ? Look out because you will be next on the termination block ! It happened to me ! The bottom line is what it is all about !

I was lucky enough to go straight back to work making more $$ than I was making with walmart with less stress - no black friday - off thanks giving / Christmas / Easter. in the same job I had with Walmart

Don't be afraid to really get out there and look for that job. They are out there. Life after Walmart is amazing.

After 21 years of being that dedicated / hard working associate / brain washed to the point that I felt there where no other choices of a career / pay / feeling all my eggs where in one basket ! Relief set in and it feels amazing !

For those that are playing the game of ki55 a$$ at walmart trying to succeed ? GOOD LUCK! The $$ money will come to you "if" you make it and don't pi55 anyone off during your climb. Keep kissing it and you'll be fine.

For the others doing the work for those ki55 holes ? Speak up ! Speak up Speak up - they should here your voice. You should rally together as a store and speak up ! Don't be afraid to - Sam Walton would want you To. !

There are three generations in a company's life cycle. First generation: building the dream. That was Sam. The company prospered Second generation: maintaining the dream. That was Rob, who said in the onset he was not his father, and he was right. The company peaked and spread too thin, got away from it's roots. The third generation: the children and in-laws who know nothing about the business will preside over the demise and destruction of the company. Three generations. For Walmart these are the end of days. Sell your stock now!

Yes. Right on. I have a similar story and its definitely a popularity contest. I am thankful for everything I learned because I run my own Business now, but please, managers, don't stay. Its better elsewhere. Don't get caught up in the "bleed blue". You are worth more than Walmart treats you. Noone at Walmart cares, on any level, about you, your health or your family.

District 59 ? How about just the entire Region # 6 !

If this entire company ? in which I believe is, being run like this region ? They are taking and TANKING the entire company - Store managers day after day are making $100,000 a year + 90% of their salary as a bonus off your hard working a$$'$ ! and you would never know it! Pencil whipping every note ( because leadership is TO dumb to follow up) in the system ! Some are actually working their butts off to maintain but the rest is just going through the routine !

Been covering for those A holes for far to long to be quit !

No one in Walmart could give a dang about your well being are satisfaction of life as long as you don't interfere with theirs!

Well here is another post of the ages - when will you guys figure it out that walmart doesn't give a ratts but about what you have contributed for most of your life. I know because I tried it, I dedicated my life to it for 20 + years.

I went on a leave when they "thought: they where going to fire me in this years evaluation process after working my a– off for them over the holidays.

a bit of background here

Walmart store manager - stepped down to ast. mgr. - went to work for this Ahole in T- Tx. - he was arrogant / conceited couldn't care less attitude of a manager ( and he was former military / what a shame )- was told I could help him learn his role since I was a former store mgr. and he hated me - because I challenged his ways against policy / procedures of the company - went to the other Tomball Tx. store and that store manager had ZERO backbone - his new to role coaches told him what they would do because he didn't know there roles.

The co. mgrs. that where on the termination list told me I was on the list - I took my leave and received pay for 4-1/2 months (100% to be exact)

Just to find another job and make more than I was already making !

Walmart treats there people like shi55 - you want to know more ? respond to this post and i will answer - I check this regularly - Houston area mkt is just pencil whipping everything and leadership could care less

This isn't just happening in Houston. In Porterville CA the store manager couldn't find her azz with her own two hands. She knows absolutely nothing about the operation part of the store. She hides in her office most of the day with the door locked and wont answer her phone. She comes out long enough to scream at the asm's. We have 3 of 6 asm's on the Covid loa. Been gone 3 wks and still dont know when they will return. Overnights is being ran by support's. The claim supervisor is the one the SM uses to find out how to do her job cause like I said, she cant find her azz with her own 2 hands!! Its disgusting.

I can not disagree at all with this post. The region here in Houston is simply ridiculous. There are so few assistant managers here that have that work ethic your talking about. Day in Day out work their butts off to maintain a good work ethic. Work tireless hours with really no reward but their paycheck.

Then Walmart brings in these so called coaches to run areas that DO NOT assist with the operations of the store. The store I came from we had 3 new coaches in roll.
1- Over front end that had no clue to Walmart process and procedures that I had to help train in her role because the store manager didn't even know how to do her job.

  1. Fresh Coach - only works in her area and does nothing for cap 2 / do deposits / answers no calls or customer request.
  2. coach over backroom ? - simply r—ded position - Cap 2 doesn't finish anything - leaves consumables for overnights and the remainder of the truck

Then so called store manager shows up in the morning and rides the overnight managers a55 off and makes them stay till all is stocked - while this overnight manager is working 15 hour days and these so called coaches go home with more money in their pockets - Leadership could care less of the miss treatment of those managers.

The remainder of the assistants in the building are buddy buddy with store manager and get no flack over their areas.

Some managers are getting sh– on day after day - but for some reason they are the ones keeping their jobs.

Very solid post. I was with WM for 15 years and can easily identify with every bullet point you hit.

As far as advancement to salaried, one note to add: I watched that company shift from where one could pull themselves up by their bootstraps and climb as high as their ambitions would take them.....to being a popularity contest where, if you're not among the annointed, you will be ignored and passed over time and time again for promotion. They come to YOU now. I even saw it where an hourly friend and an assistant who was a friend had their jobs threatened by the Market Manager if they refused their promotions.

I was fired in a ghastly, completely sadistic process that dragged on for nearly a year. A co wanted me gone, plain and simple, and because I had never experienced being literally stalked like prey before, I didn't realize my peril until it was too late (not that I belive it would have made any difference. Those upper managers will back each other over murder indictments, trust me). .... Karma caught up with that co, tho, and he was purged in the Great Co Exodus of 2017.

Finally: You're correct. Life IS so much sweeter after Walmart! I've been gone for nearly five years and, while I don't regret my time there, I am ever SO much happier (and prosperous!) than I ever was with that company.

WOOOOW! So much truth to this entire post that it makes me laugh - this sounds exactly like my story. I am here in Houston and followed this same path - hourly associate promoted to ast. , then to Co. Mgr. after doing the work of so many other managers that walmart decided to keep but still couldn't do the job. Then promoted to store manager just to find out - that all that help I gave to other stores I was receiving none for myself in a c-ap hole store / high risk / high shrink / but no cavalry coming to my rescue like I gave to others for years.

I stepped down and went back to an assistant - maxed out pay at $65k - then they started the terminations this year. Those assistants that where ki55 the booty kept there jobs. I was terminated with NO reason given - even after open door with regional mgr. / rHR - no reason given - just a good luck guy ! SEE YA ! but i went to a competitor and received more pay - vacation - insurance etc. the first day of work! People should get out while they can. Walmart s—s in so many ways.

Ever since Sam left the entire core value of the company has gone to c-ap. So many ruined marriages missed school functions / anxiety / depression that Walmart should be labeled a Pandemic !

Store managers here in Houston probably work between 4-5 days a week and about 5-7 hours a day. There's no cleaning going on. Nobody is monitoring the use of a face mask. One dude has a video on liveleak.com wearing a fish net made mask into a walmart. And no one said anything to him.

Walmart management is the worst anyone have ever worked for.
