Thread regarding Marathon Oil Corp. layoffs

Hardest lesson has been learned...

I dreamed of working at Marathon Oil ever since I was child ( back in the 1980’s & I wanted to retire working there) but I was faithful, put so much care and worked the extra hours to make sure that MRO showed its faithfulness to the employee as much the employee placed in the company. Regretfully I found out the opposite...no companies are loyal to their employees!!! That was an old idea that no longer pertains to current times.
There is no loyalty any more and lesson is learned unfortunately, there is nothing holding an employee’s loyalty to a company who will cut your position regardless of their extra hours or contributions.
So with a heavy heart MRO desires the hardships and karma as it should!

What's with all the deleted posts and immediate counterpoints? Not every "anointed one" is liked or respected by their peers. In my experience, those people are often some of the absolute worst to work with.

Thanks for the reassurance on the Treasurer Jill!

The last poster is an HR bot or the treasurer. You can’t fool a fool you fool.

Treasurer is extremely competent and could easily run that function at most S&P 500 companies. A–'t Treasurer, also from Noble, has great experience, well schooled and should make an excellent Treasurer when his time comes.

Marathon people seem to be complainers and lowly motivated. Most of you should be let loose so you can go protest something.

Don’t lose hope. No company is perfect, but there are good companies and great management teams. I know it’s a tough time for many reasons, but opportunities still exist. I hope each person finds the right one for them.

I think some posters miss the point. It isn’t that the complaining posters built and ruined the culture, but rather that the company’s “flavor of the month” approach to bringing in leadership from outside the company destroys whatever culture we may have been able to build. It’s unfortunate that some legitimate grievances come off as racist/s-xist, but it is hard to constructively complain about diversity without addressing race and gender. When the company prioritizes both diversity and outside hiring, it leaves very few career paths for people already inside the company. If all the seats on the lifeboat are taken, somebody has to drown. Women and children first, and the men eat the iceberg.

Dang, what is going on at this company? And did I read people wear embroidered shirts?

You all are a bunch of has-been, sore-sport, laid off losers. The reason you all are laid off (or soon you be laid off) is because YOU are the problem. YOU made up the culture you complain about... ineptitude, gossip, and prejudice... and it’s the reason why most of you people who write on this board are no longer employed and were the first to be let go. It’s no secret that the people you are disparaging happen to be in the minority groups. Are you threatened because you realize that being white alone didn’t keep your job for you? Good riddance!

sounds like a great idea actually. so let's not stop at treasury then. let's create a temporary replacement position for every single role in the company. we have lots of cash, we can swing it.

My guess would be it is a temporary position to see how he performs, and if they like him after a couple of years they will likely promote him to treasurer once the current treasurer either gets reassigned, retires, or leave the company.

The question is why do we need an assistant treasurer? Do we have assistant CEO? Or assistant engineer? Or Assistant VP?

The assistant treasurer is good if you need someone to show up at meetings with cuff links and embroidered shirts. He doesn't know much so bless his heart. Good news is he's out of office around 50% of time pre-covid.

I’m sure the Bakken PE manager is somewhere “getting a tool built” by x-group—that’s been his catch phrase since he arrived. So yeah...hot garbage like someone else here mentioned.

I wouldn’t necessarily say that. The assistant treasurer and the tall guy with the accent who took over Permian seem to be worth their salt. They say the current Permian guy recruited the Bakken hot bag of garbage PE manager...no idea why though because form what I’ve seen it was a huge step backwards for the company. I know for a fact he’s wasted a lot of company money getting his buddies in Permian to charge insane mileage charges to do work in ND...and the same work could’ve easily been sources locally there. But like someone else said, everyone turns a blind eye to that sort of thing because he’s of the protected class.

The Bakken PE manager was predictable. He was recruited by a bunch of other fellow Noble lackeys that work Permian. Everyone we hired from Noble is pretty much worthless!

The post here about personal favorites and delegation ring loud and clear for the Bakken production engineering team—but everyone turns a blind eye to it. The head of that cr@p show is nothing more than a bag of hot air with a big mouth.

Can’t say it’s much better in OK but at least we have decent, intelligent leadership that’s not all about “hooking up the good ol boys club” outside MRO.

I’ve worked at other E&Ps and I was appalled by what I saw at Marathon. Terrible company, terrible leadership and some really awful people. The only hard part about leaving for me was thinking about the good people still there suffering.

The diversity and inclusion is a joke at Marathon. There are people promoted on that platform from within the company because they are favorites for personal reason not because of their talent (or lack there of) . They have everyone else run their projects jobs and run reports. The only talent they have is delegation. The people REALLY running the show are a bunch of closet racists. The best thing anyone under 40 can do is leave while there is still time to build a career outside of Marathon. Thank your lucky starts you didn't have to waste another day there. Oil is not the industry to be in anymore.

Part of it is the times, part of it is the industry, and a big part of it is Marathon oil. There are a lot better places out there to work for. I hope you find one.
