It was hard enough waiting anxiously for the phone call determining the future of employment in my case termination nicely stated elimination of my position. My people leader literally read off a phone script. After getting the bad news I was asked if I had any questions.I asked how the decision was made there was silence and the ultimate response made no sense.

I received a phone call from a people leader that read from a script that they were unable to continue my employment and that my last day with Macy's is June 30th. It just felt cold and unfeeling, especially since I worked for the company for 24 years. About 20 minutes later, I had an e-mail sent stating everything said to me verbatim. The funny thing is signing up for medical, dental , vision and other benefits a few weeks prior to being let go. Macy's is losing so many talented colleagues that contributed to their store's success. I wonder if the decisions to terminate colleagues came from corporate or based solely at the store level's discretion.
I used to be a department manager in a completely different industry and always met one on one with all employees that were being laid off. That's what I was paid for, i.e. to be a manager. It was difficult but it was my responsibility. My job at Macy's was part time (I'm retired) so I was not the least surprised at being let go particularly because I actually cared and tried to make a few recommendations (not trying to be a know-it-all) to improve and streamline the area I worked in. It was clear to me that Macy's was going the way of Sears. Unfortunately, the current management doesn't have the ability to reinvent the company, as Target did when it was on it's last legs.
You are not required to read off a script. I never used the script.
During my many years in management at the store level, I was asked to read a script over the phone, and have script in front of me when having a face to face conversation. I specifically recall one script where the words (show concern) was inserted. I could not believe it. That is when I knew HR and VPSM could not be trusted......their concern for their employees was scripted.
Do we still qualify for the employee discount until June 30?
I was like go yesterday and received a phone call very late in the afternoon. The message what do you expect a call between 8 AM and 6 PM andI waited all day Finally getting the bad news.I wasn’t in the mood to ask any questions as .to the reason for the decision.
Tried several times to reach HR to find out my health insurance coverage.Coverage ends officially July 4th beyond the furloughed official termination date of June 30.Even though health insurance was covered during the furlough there will still be a gap until new coverage Is found.Cobra is just to expensive and not an option for most.No compassion regarding associates losing coverage. There are so many dedicated talented associates affected by the restructuring.Retail will never be the same.
It seems that there is use of SLYDIAL to bypass having to speak before going to voicemail. It kind of says alot when a company is using SLYDIAL. Seriously!?
Every company I have worked for follows that same process. They are told to read off the script not ad lib because if there is a lawsuit they want a consistent message that doesn’t leave the company open to be sued. S—s but that is how it has been done in many companies where I have worked. Not saying it’s right, so don’t shoot the messenger
A call of any sort would have been nice. I only received an email. Not crying... I'm just a dumb part time signer. Good luck to whoever has to clean my sign cart!
They are required to read script to ensure they lie by omission like they all do.
Same story for me. My Store Manager didn't have the decency to call and had a sales manager do it. I asked how the decisions were made and was told she didn't know and wasn't involved in the process. I guess I expected better after 23 years with the company.
They read from a script face to face during the February M—acre.
Asked the same with a glazed look of fear
Any questions ?
Some store managers may have directed leaders to read a script, or maybe they were nervous...
I unfortunately had to make a lot of calls yesterday to colleagues as well, but I didn't read off the script, just an honest conversation, I feel it goes better that way.
We did read off a script and it was HORRIBLE AND AWKWARD, we were told we had to read it word for word and not go off script.
It was cold and heartless to people who gave years of service to the company
I apologize for how you felt.
I also called the colleagues I did this too on my own time that I have a personal connection with and told them I was sorry. They each told me they knew me well enough to know that was not the way I would have done things.
