Thread regarding IBM layoffs

GTS Canada Purge today, Thursday June 25

Everyone I work with in IBM Canada is getting the dreaded meeting today. Some have already had them. They're scheduled for 30 minutes, but the script reading only takes 4.

Not surprising as they devastated IBM US last month. Everything goes to India.

Agreed with one post I saw here. The problem (US and Canada, both) is not the H1B problem nearly as much as it is the wholesale shift of work completely to the India centers. It's no longer a trickle of workers coming here, sitting in the US taking jobs here and there. It's the complete removal of entire departments, then divisions, to India.

I lived this firsthand at IBM for years. First, a handful of offshore workers doing night coverage. Then, some low level management, then mid levels. By the end, the directors were all in India and the entire work load was there, from the bottom to the top. It was all gone. Just a VP in the US that , at least on Blue Pages, looked to be in charge of a completely offshore based model, that just a few years before was all US based.

Thanks IBM. You really got us in the end.

Which business unit are you in? You mean, the entire GTS in Canada?

Yes, IBM is cutting workforce here and taking those jobs to india. you don't have to do much. simply go to linkedin or ibm internal portal and look for positions opened in India in the last 2-3 weeks.
I got RAed in US a month ago like many others and tried to find something internal but no luck. In my line of work, there were very few jobs in US but found lot in india.
People here accuse H1B. I say the US/Canada has to stop companies from taking jobs to India? Big US tech companies like IBM already have half of the employees in India and they are planning to take more jobs there in future.

it's sad.
Did they offer options similar to what IBM did in the US?
1) 3-month lumpsum salary after 30days and leave
2) Relocation to someplace where you can't have life

Has anyone in the USA or Europe asked what the current Services staffing model is under the new CEO? It used to be 20% on shore (sales) 20% near shore (very experienced technical skills), and 60% off shore (perform). Given the current lay offs, new enterprise focus, and covid restrictions, it appears to be a much skinnier plan than that. Perhaps 5, 5, and 90, with the 5’s having the added requirement of excellent communication skills due to having the perform off shore
