Ex - Xeroid here.
Left last year...my new company told us that part of the return to office policy will be the removal of all printers from the office. All print will be done from our business centres. No printers, no scanners. Our contract is with Xerox & we are a very large client.
The reason is to avoid communal contact locations - and printers are considered a prime source of contact.
If this is going to be greater trend among offices then I’m sorry to say but Xerox revenue is going straight to Zero in the office space.
Make what you will with this information.

When I left Xerox last year, after 20 years, first check in text I got from an ex-Xerox colleague was “What kind of copiers do y’all have? And can I come give you a quote?” Guess what, my new company doesn’t have any copiers. There’s one HP desktop for 140 employees in my city’s office. And I’d bet more than half of us don’t even have it mapped. There’s no printing in house. Of anything. RFPs go to a print shop. I was floored, but now it seems totally normal.
If anyone who works here actually thinks print is dead, what the hell do you think your job has been? Fixing machines that people print from. Makes no sense to hear people say print is dead.
Print. Is. Dead. Anyone who does n't see this has their head in the sand or somewhere darker. Yes there will be some residual need for print in the new reality but it won't be like yesterday. We can't all sell production inkjet... hope you're close to retirement and you're 401K does n't have xrx in it.
Lots of stuff still must be printed as companies advertise to make their workflow go... not to mention payroll checks... yes xerox services those printers as well... alot of these posts are from office techs. p-ss-d off... have yall thought about moving up and working on the big boy products?
Why does anyone need to print anything anyhow?? What year is this??! Are living in the 90s? One thing COVID taught everyone is that we do not need to print anything- u invest in digital transformation technologies and big a– monitors and you are good to go. Get this through your heads people - PRINT IS DEAD. Xerox soon to follow.
Maybe try production Inkjet? If you got the skills.. it's a much different environment working on a printer 80 feet long...
that's where xerox makes a good chunk of money is production... it's much easier to replace an office tech then a production one as production brings in the most revenue
All good for Xerox. Versant is one of the most profitable printers we sell! Lots of toner !!!!!
Goofballs
We may be going back to dedicated key-ops wouldn’t that be nice.
How would this even work? What if you need a copy or printout of a one-off item? You need to send it to your business center? Makes no sense
A few “I don’t believe it” comments on here, but I assure you that this information is true; just because you don’t want to believe bad news which will negatively impact your company doesn’t mean I’m lying. These are facts I’m giving you and keep in mind this is only my company’s policy - I don’t know if it will be a trend.
So, now everyone will congregate and peacefully social distance at the counter in the business center while they patiently wait for their prints! Don’t believe it.
oh I believe it, the amount of fingerprints and touching the screens when scanning docs in is a major germ fest
I don't believe it. Most printing has no contact at all. You walk up and grab your prints. Printing is definitely a majority of the clicks, compared to any sort of scanning.
