Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Phase 1 and 2 of recall process details

I am having difficulties nailing down the details of the recall phases and our rights and the consequences of our choices.

  1. My store manager told me that if I refuse to return for the first round, I am still considered on furlough and unemployment benefits will not be affected. Is this true? I'm concerned because he has lied in the past.
  2. He told me that 2nd round is a different story. Which I totally understand. But he would not answer my question if I could use my personal sick days or PTO when I returned. I understand that there would be no UI but he would not tell me if I could use my own time.

Does anyone have these details or any other relevant information? Insite doesn't seem to give clear instructions. Is there a place to see these details spelled out? My store manager wasn't even forthcoming about the fact there are two rounds until I brought it up to him.

SO many different answers on this thread. You need to call HR Services first, and then your state's unemployment office to ensure you are getting the right answers.

Actually that's a lie some states have made it where you can refuse work and still get benefits, if you meet the criteria one being you have people over 65 or with health conditions at home

Remember the email said to allow the store managers 4 days to contact whomever is being called back. Those who are not, will receive an email that call backs are over. You are still considered furloughed and eligible for UI and CARES Act funds. If you resign on your own accord, you are NOT eigible for UI OR Cares Act. You quit or decline job offers, you don't get benefits. PERIOD

If you leave your job on your own accord, you will not qualify for unemployment, including the cares act money as this is tied to "involuntary" unemployment. Several of us have verified this.

If you leave your job cause of 2nd round call backs and you do not go back you still get unemployment threw cares act. You left your job cause of the threat of virus to you’re health. That check is only good till July 31st

I received an email on this past Friday that the recall process has stated in the store. Haven't received a call as of yet our store is suppose to open this coming Friday. I'm thinking maybe this Monday or Tuesday, I'm FT and our store was understaffed to begin with.

I am not 100% certain but the way I understood it is that if you say no a second time, it’s your resignation and you won’t be eligible for UI. If you return either phase and are uncomfortable and don’t feel safe, you may request an unpaid loa. No pto can be used until I think around September. I don’t want to return but I said yes because I need my job. There is no guarantee there will even be a second chance.
