Love your post and experience, Anon. This is what the forum can be.
So sad to hear but as an ex-Nordie for over 5 years, I saw the retail imposition coming 10 years ago that is when I left retail for good. Unfortunately it took a once in a generation life event to happen to do so.
In light of this Rack/online will maybe save Nordstrom but it wont save the employees unfortunately. 16 Stores are closing for good however hold on to your horses because I think this will be closer to 40 bye the time this is all said and done.
The FULLLINE retail shopping experience will be dedicated to an experience rather than a need. When was the last time you saw someone with arms full of bags in the mall. The mall is a gathering place.
I was in a mall about 2 years ago saw an Item. Thought it was cheap checked it on amazon it was 30% cheaper ordered IT on the spot got it 24 hours later on my doorstep welcome to retail 2020.
Good luck to all my remaining retail crew. My advise take what you have learned from your years in Retail and create your own business. What worked, what didn't work, what did you see, where is the need? same day shipping, 2 hour shipping, size exchange discount, selection etc
People are still gonna buy apparel but at what cost?

What a pointless post
Yea they edit this thing, that’s why nobody takes it serious.
I suppose the site has jannies that maintain the fora, removing posts that are too mean or too personal, or for other reasons.
Understand that I have been posting for many months, even before I settled on this handle. The long-term story of Nordstrom is interesting to me. I was a part of a wave of transformation at the company, I've seen good things and bad here. Did you know that Elmer once worked for Marshall Field's in Chicago? There are cool old ties and traditions in this company, from the cult of JWN to his kids and the grandkids.
Every real employee should read and know the published biographies of this company, or you're just a jobber, a hire, passing through. But I suppose the hour is late.
I post the 8-Ks and look for clues in the tea leaves. I worry about the overshoot and whether I'll get to shop the Manhattan FLS at all. I wonder if retail as we knew it is ruined and disrupted and just over. I think I'll miss it.
Folks, someone is deleting comments. This is not fair. Everyone has their own opinion.
@bleak - do you have admin rights here? Time to quit this site. You cannot save or sink Nordie through few comments. Need action. Nordie leadership does not like criticism and so it shows here where employees delete comments.
Opinions matter. We are not in North Korea.
Seriously, where does the anger come from on this?
I'm ex-Nordie, know the company quite well, and watch from my perch with a sense of bemused detachment. There are people in this company I miss and admire, others I despise.
The family are good people, just pulled along by the maelstrom of tech hubris and this past crazy decade. The old-school, prudent Nordstroms would have remodeled the Lord & Taylor space on 5th Avenue instead of shooting the moon as they have on 57th Street.
When Macy's goes, this company is all that's left for a big box department store. It would be sad to see them close up shop. It's out of my hands, especially since I haven't shopped there seriously for years. But I would miss them and the retail experience they offer in better times.
Again, why so angry?
