Mass Upcoming Layoffs in Warren

GM Recently notified Warren as required by city for any upcoming mass layoffs. This is from a friend that works for the city. She did not know the number specified. This is a few weeks prior to when the actual layoffs would occur.

Heh. Keep telling yourself that.

In the meantime, keep this link handy. As a GM worker, you are going to need it:

What kind of company just lays people off every year? You understand nothing.

Precisely. Because GM has never let people go in profitable times.

A lot of people missing the big picture. This will be an excuse for another Mary Barra work force “right sizing.” Good opportunity to further thin the ranks of middle aged white men and then discretely replenish with protected groups. Just like in 2019.

You are all id–ts. This could have been resolved in one follow up. WARN notices go to the state. The state has a website where you can download them and review them in detail. Today is May 1st, 2020 The website is updated as of April 30th 2020. GM has not issued a warrant notice since January 2020 when they notified the state of the pending closing of the joint UAW Training Center in downtown Detroit primarily due to mass corruption at the UAW. It's all fake news. Read a book

How long can these daily losses pile up before further cost-cutting is deemed essential?

We have heard sales are going very good, I talked with a dealer salesperson who said they were super busy. So, once plants start they can run hard, if workers feel safe, and get the income positive quickly. Should be plenty of time to start making money for Mary to continue 20M+ salary, while stock price continues to s— she she took over.

I am sure GM have every intention to do no layoffs for now. But math in is simply not matching. 35 billion in credit line. 50% drop in sales. Every day burn out is 150 million. They have to start production in May to keep story alive

Agree with this person:

I love the comments trying to disprove the suggestion of an impending layoff with their personal opinions and no data and then criticizing the person who

if you don't have inside info on layoff or related HR stuff keep your stupid unrelated comments to urself and f— off.

I love the comments trying to disprove the suggestion of an impending layoff with their personal opinions and no data and then criticizing the person who started the layoff for not having enough data. For instance, in my experience at GM, Executive Directors did have that information on last year's layoffs–that gave them lead time to determine who would be on the cut list. Remember, the name of this site's URL is www.thelayoff.com, so the intent is to learn any information, including rumors that employees have about an upcoming or current layoff. Quit criticizing those providing that crucial information...some will end up being false but some will be true. It is up to each individual to decide for themselves whether to believe or disbelieve each comment....to those initiating a comment, please keep them coming.

I feel like it is targeted in IT. Last time around, there were hardly anyone let go in Ireland and Austin, relatively speaking. Most of the staff in Ireland are below average, they don’t get any other job. They survive because they sit in the same office as their senior executives. While the most talented people left by themselves because they were left out with no attention or let go while the jokers in Ireland and Austin who had no contributions what so ever got promoted. I wonder if this can be handled legally, does this build a legal case for GM?

Interestingly, I am a laid off GM IT worker who was in the Chandler AZ office in Feb 2019. I was let go after being with GM over 10 years. I was told that my performance was great but I just had the wrong address...this coming from a CIO located in Dublin, Ireland. GM IT is now a clone of Dell's old IT. An environment where nobody is safe and loyalty/Integrity are non-existent. Every man/woman for themselves. My recommendation: enjoy the comp & benefits as long as they will let you.
It's the automotive business. There are always rumors about layoffs.

Everyone talking about IT being laid off.. speaking as IT, I am starting to hope. GMIT is underpaid and overworked. Everyone I know who was cut last time is in a better situation now. If they don't value what they have as the posts here seem to imply then good riddance.

They could have easily let go of the Maven employees but are redeploying them. Layoffs are always possible if this thing really goes in the tank, but I doubt they are part of the current plan. The political fallout would be brutal and the company may need to apply for federal loans.

First this guy got the info from Fouts and now he’s talking to executive directors. Pretty well connected!

Executive directors who have lay-off info aren’t going to randomly share it with level 7s. Give me a break.

Your executive director probably doesn’t work for GM because he doesn’t have that information no one does. There will always be rumors of lay offs but it wouldn’t be huge . This isn’t a recession where just car companies are getting hit. Everything is and CEOs are doing whatever they can to protect their workforce. There is a lot more cost savings they can do before laying off a work force they actually need (besides IT). A lot of People can stay working from home giving gm the opportunity to sell real estate.

The amount of people who have came on here and said lay offs are going to happen and they heard from a director when they didn’t is a lot. The people posting on here are lonely lazy people with nothing better to do

IT will be laid off. We can’t afford to lay off more employees in other areas we need to run a company. Someone said Warren was notfied that would be through a warns filing nothing else. Ford needs lay offs way before we do. Same with FCA. Be happy cuts were made a year ago. It helped. Stop coming on here and trolling this site when you literally know nothing

An Executive Director confirmed that Tech Ctr "substantial" layoffs will be taking place in May or early June. He indicated that GM will encounter a dire financial situation under the expectation that GM vehicle sales will be dramatically lower for the remainder of this year. The salary reductions will not be sufficient to counter the lost sales.

That’s true the Warn is filed with the state and is usually filed 60 days in advance. In 2019 GM didn’t file it until February 4, the same day they did a mass layoff at the tech center. Ended up costing them 5 additional weeks of pay and benefits to those laid off. Just because you don’t see a Warn letter filed does not mean there isn’t something going on behind the scenes. No matter where you’re employed never get too comfortable.

You file the warn act with the state not the city and you would be able to look up if GM filed. id–t

All the jobs are about to be offshored, makes no sense for a multinational corporation like GM to use cheap ineffective American labor when Mexico is right there.

why Warren. IT is wasting money, why not reduce people in Austin and get rid of Ireland office. We don't sell a single car in Ireland yet we have 1000's of people there doing rudimentary IT support jobs. There whole purpose seems like is to export jobs over to Ireland.
