Thread regarding Hertz layoffs

It's already happening

I was told today by Hertz I'm no longer furloughed I am now considered laid off benefits will stop on May 15 3020.

I was worried this would happen and I was right. I just didn't expect it to happen so soon. People are already seeing their status changed to laid off from furlough. This means most of us are screwed...

The likely reason your status changed from "furloughed" to "laid off" so quickly can be summed up in two words: federal bailout. "Furloughed" infers a temporary hiatus where you will eventually get your job back (which is generally a condition of getting bailout funding). Furlough status changed to "laid off" in a heartbeat when Uncle Sam told the rental car industry "Sorry, no free lunch". I feel your pain. Know this, this situation was not your fault and out of your control. A wise man once told me you can't worry about things that you can't control. Keep a positive attitude and you'll weather the storm. The economy will turn around. Look at it this way, it's Hertz loss that they let you go and never look back. Best of luck in your future endeavors.

I was very surprised that being on furlough for 2 weeks to permanently laid off was so soon. One way to clean house. The people that are there is so much not far. Favoritisms is so much the picture!

Any FM s out there ask why they were chosen to be laid off versus the other FM s? What did they tell you the selection criteria was? Seniority? Performance? Discrimination?
Unbelievable. It is heart wrenching that so many great people have been tossed out under the bs pretext.
Stay strong team.

IF they find a way to rebuild and start hiring again, maybe. But I wouldn't wait around for a callback from a company so comfortable with taking from the employees first when in a pinch. Over the 16 years I poured into this company many perks dropped one at a time. From company sponsored picnics to multiple years worth of raises and repeated layoffs. My understanding is that those currently left employed at Hertz have now had their April raises taken, removal of 401k match and no more service anniversary rewards. So, I ask, what's left to go back to? A paycheck with no guarantee on raises and the possibility of being laid off at a moment's notice?

Does anyone think we will be called back? I gave my heart and soul to this company. I feel really stupid for thinking I was going back after April 10.
I know I am one of many but my question is, when business picks up who will be working? The location cant run off of one person renting cars.

Sorry to hear. I know many of you have tried to remain as optimistic as possible. Unfortunately the lack of vision of the executives has brought Hertz to this point. No one could have predicted this coming but look at other companies that are finding solutions that keep people employed and the pain is shared. Stay strong.
