Thread regarding Hertz layoffs

Sad Day

~6,200 people no longer work for the company as of today. It is surreal! Unfortunately, the company has to take action otherwise they'll go belly up. At this point I'm not even sure how they will recover, let alone fully. This senior management team really started to move the company in the right direction after the damage Frissora caused. There are a lot of people bashing Hertz, however, many other companies are forced to do the same thing to have a chance at coming out of this. Be a little kinder out there.

  1. Hertz
Industry: Car rental
Headquarters: Estero, Florida

New York City is the hardest-hit place in America by the coronavirus, and many health care workers in the city struggled to get to their jobs as public transit became unsafe. Hertz decided to use its idle rental cars to fill that gap, offering these workers free car rentals throughout April in the city. Hertz is also lending Mount Sinai Health System free cargo van rentals to transport ventilators and other supplies.

Fact is,Hertz started going down after merged with Dollar and Thrifty, they are the ones dragging Hertz downhill.
And the Managment cheap mentality giving the house away, upgrades for free, not valuing their fleet as Hertz # 1 should be recognized being in the market for over 100 years.
Poor management, lost opportunity to make more money in a good market with good economy, too late now.Bankrupcy is probably on the way.....

Hey, looking for positive vibe poster and Hertz Management defender/slave, giving one sided view on the layoff and demeaning others will not give you positive vibe. May be you are one of those kiss up person who was able to keep the job doing what you are doing here.

For those of you not concerned, I'm good. Thanks for asking. Unlike the group here I don't wish anyone ill for having their opinion. Rooting for Hertz and hoping everyone can see all sides and find some positive vibes.

You go away and keep your job with federal assistance. Do not put your thoughts here to aggravate our wound with your salty attitude.

Go and run the company properly to save it rather than bashing the laid off employees on this page. You have no better things to do...looks like. Or go back to massage your boss.

A little kindness?? Seriously?? I made this company millions, in sales and I too was laid off. The company kept long time seniors who make high hourly pay and don't generate revenue. Explain that? Management with Hertz has been a joke for years. No room for growth without a significant pay cut. Promising no cap on commission which lasted a year, then capping it at 8% without the NPS modifier, which was a complete hoax. All of a sudden there was no transparency. A little odd that it was only obtained on 1 off season month in a year? Hertz can expect more than one class action. If you sign the severance you basically forfeit unemployment, and can't sue. They can keep their hush money!

Sad day. You are making us more sadder and seem to be out of touch with reality. You seem to be aloof to the suffering of the employees. Why was there no limit on exec compensation of millions? Why was Hertz hiring at the beginning of the year? If you did not have liquidity, why were you on that hiring mode? What have you done to those recent college passouts, who rejected other offers to come to Hertz and lost their jobs in a month? Some of those employee, who are foreign nationals, have to leave USA now. You are not comprehending what people are going through. Top management has failed to run the company with appropriate liquidity and put that on the verge of bankruptcy....admit and go away to count your last $.

Correction to my post here 11,000 layoffs. Listen I feel for everyone - employees and the company alike. Yeah, can the company do better - absolutely but everyone seems to be forgetting the good things this senior managment team has done. While many companies eliminated discretionary spending, Hertz at least in my Region was still allowing local management to spend money to celebrate milestones. Kathy eliminated the senior team from flying in and requesting top of the line cars - she even herself drove a minivan. Our VSA's were incentivized with a generous up to $500 monthly bonus. Frontline employees had the opportunity to provide feedback about uniforms. This senior management team not only listened to the field about what could be better but they also acted on it after conducting field focus groups, one thing that came from what was an opportunity for Hertz to give back to commodities in local markets. They put more resources in training - they flew countless employees from every region and division to participate in leadership development programs. The company fixes things when they break with almost no questions. I've seen them in the RAC world upgrade breakrooms and facillities. They upgraded what was a very sad fleet to one we could proudly stand behind. The culture turned to recognize more; real employees were put in the spotlight. The company provided for 38,000 employees as a vulnerable business with a low profit margin just from the nature of it's business. After this event who knows the long term impact to the business. Much like people no business is perfect. I know this doesn't come easy to them. It's just an overall unprecedented and difficult time. Have some compassion for everyone and stop being bitter. Most level headed employees can see my view.

Sounds like one of the corporate HRBP's wrote that. Also, note that they said 6,200 when it was 11,000. Take a look at the WARN notice. This company is f—ed. Senior management is a joke. Hundreds of millions of dollars wasted on an IT project that still doesn't work. A prior comment nailed it, criminal charges against senior management.

"Sad Day", you have your head up you.....

The new senior management never was moving the company in the right direction, but down the drain. They came from Proctor and Gamble, GE, United with no rental car experience what so ever.
They attempted to train us to clean cars like airplanes, and tell us that flying corporate all over the country showing us to 5S would solve all of our problems. Give me a break, they wasted millions of dollars on c-ap. And what of the new computer system that has been coming for 5 years and a billion dollars later and on their 6th VP over seeing it. All poor Management plain a simple, and a joke!
