Thread regarding Chesapeake Energy Corp. layoffs

How are employees this week?

How is everyone doing after last week’s layoffs? I went thru too many rounds when I was there. But doing them while everyone is working from home is new. Usually we were all gathered in offices sharing names which probably added to the stress. Do you feel it’s a little easier this time not being surrounded by it?

Thinking about all of you still there and hoping the best for you & your families.

CHK board and Upper Management again boosts themselves with their new plan to increase stock price and avoid bankruptcy.

All of us who had low quantities of stock are now completely wiped out to boost their stock price. They will again receive millions with their compensation package and cash out because they know the future is grim.

Year over year they were given millions and millions of stock which they repeatedly cashed out while our stock compensation package was disposed of. They continued to dilute the stock and increase debt for years. Those of us that were cut off from receiving stock were forced to hold what little we had because of the declining company portfolio.

Now here they are once again taking away from the ones that kept them open to try to prosper one last time.

There are other managers in other disciplines that share the same characteristics. Most companies have some political BS and people in management who shouldn’t be, but it’s a dominant problem at CHK.

We had a guy in Louisville OH that was the world’s most insecure and productivity k–ling boss in history. So typical for CHK. First of all, he didn’t know a fluid end from a pipe wrench, but the real problem was any idea that wasn’t his idea was beaten down and thrown out. His way or the high way. Here are some examples we saw first hand in the Utica.

There was one of the most hard working and knowledgeable assistants in the company: in fact, she held the department together for two years of transitional time in our office.

The guy was so clueless, he accused this assistant of sleeping with vendors. In reality she was a lesbian in a committed relationship. He ran her off anyway.

He inherited a great field leadership team, not afraid to communicate with us. He let go everyone who knew him prior to his promotion, because they knew how clueless he is about process, and he wanted everything run through him. He kept only below average guys who never question the lack of innovation or high cost of work that could save CHK money.

Two fellow engineers reported him to HR for abusive language and bullying behavior. Nothing done. I got moved to OKC but listened to the other engineers that had to continue to deal with him. Always the same.

I have left CHK for another O&G firm in late 2017. It has been a blessing in every way, but since then, turns out this snake had his buddy from college removed from his job because everyone knew they offered that guy his job three times before they gave it to big fat bully.

Then, the icing on the cake is that his trusted lead field guy was jailed for child molestation. What does that say about his judgement?

When Encino “bought” CHK, he was the only guy who didn’t stay with Encino. Nobody could stand his poor judgement, and no knowledge bullying. He was the only one sent with CHK.

I tell this story from the outside looking in, because it is the story of CHK leaders in a nutshell. Self-serving jerks who can’t see past their own interests. We know about DL lining his pockets at every turn.

There are so many other good engineers left there, I tell them all the time how much better it is elsewhere, but they don’t leave due to the volatile market. They’re scared to innovate or shine because they don’t want to be bullied or targeted by self serving leaders. Debt load plus the toxic leadership will certainly destroy CHK by summer’s end.

That’s very kind to think of us. None of this is easy. Having distance from the problem isn’t solving said problem, for me at least.

The long and short of it is, productivity has been low for years because our insecure leaders who think problem solving and addressing issues is a threat to their job, stifle us. We stay off the radar and do only what is expected so we don’t get on any radars.

In truth, seeing the strongest and best leaders go in February of 18 was it for me. I am working for a company who removed their most knowledgeable, strongest, best leaders because they were given too many raises and paid their worth. God forbid I get a raise or make too much in the next cut. I’m happy to be middling.

I just want to get my pay, my bonus (hopefully) and stay off the radar. That’s the same for everyone I work with in this Company. Waiting for the other shoe to drop, everyday. It gets old, either at home or at Aubrey U.
