Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

Hopes

My dad worked for GE for 38 years . Worked for the same GE and retired .
I currently have 41 years with GE , been able to dodge business sale off and lay offs . I worked for GE Plastics , GE Appliances , GE Lighting , GE Industrial Solution , GE Energy Management and now Energy Connections. Hopefully I can hold out until I retire ... long road..

Say hi to Edison when you see him down there, tell him few more are coming soon.

Tell it like it is, brother! My great-great-great grandfather put in 71 years and retired with barely a penny to his name. Thomas Edison himself even said he should be lucky he had a job for that long at such a reputable company. From burying PCB's deep in the back lot at Schenectady's campus to dumping hazardous, non-diluted chemicals straight into the Mohawk, generation after generation my ancestors have had every job on the book and have proudly built GE brick-by-brick. As for myself, I can stand here in admiration as our leadership battles the prolonged and challenging market conditions to turn this benevolent corporation around to profitability.
Heck, I could retire right now if I wanted to, but I for one refuse to let GE's institutional investors' children go to bed hungry. Unfortunately, I bought the majority of my stock at $30 so I will have to put in another 10 years here, but in Spring 2030 I will finally be able to retire comfortably in the up and coming Hamilton Hill neighborhood right down the road from where I will have worked 145 years. Take care and God bless, my friend!

41 years and still at GE? They must have forgotten that you still work there and somehow a glitch still allows you to get paid. There's no way you are contributing to GE daily. You must spend most of your time planning your lunch. If you were in the thick of it, you would have submitted your retirement paperwork already and have been gone by now.

Don't feed the troll. If he actually had 41 years and truely worked for GE, there would be no issue and he would retire.

Hopes? Based on your years of service and various positions at GE I assume you started after college. So at 41 years service, you're at least ~ 62 and can currently collect a sizeable GE pension and SS. Unless you are a spendthrift you should be well positioned for retirement. Many would be envious of your situation!

The problem is the company doesn't value loyalty, or its employees. It's all about the money.
