Thread regarding Sabre Holdings layoffs

Pay reduction and unemployment

In the US, can you file for unemployment pay to compensate for the pay reduction? I have a friend that claims this can be done if taken a pay cut. Any truth to this?

You get "x" dollars in unemployment insurance. You may need part of that payment now, but if you get laid off you'll certainly need it later. I'm not saying you should/shouldn't file for your current gap.
I'm just trying to tell you. You need to understand the impact.

This surprisingly looks promising for Texas HQ employees that took a pay reduction. I looked on a few sites that suggest to file either way and you might just get a few dollars back. Why not?!

It depends on the state.
After reviewing the TWC page, It seems like you can file a claim because of the wage reduction. I haven't tried it yet, but it sounds like you can.

Check the Texas Workforce Commission’s website to double-check. There are some new provisions specific to jobs impacted by Coronavirus so you might be able to. (If you live in a different state obviously check your stat’s website instead). Why isn’t HR helping with questions like this to help those who chose to be loyal?

Not for a pay cut. If you are hourly and you've been forced to cut the number of hours you are working, then it's possible.
