Got an email a little while ago about voluntary job elimation program. We have until April 10 to submit the application. Im guessing this means mass layoffs on April 30. I prolly won't apply since I have only a few years exp.

Aviation is not offering VJEs, even with the 25% projected reduction. What happens when a good chunk of the leftover workforce cuts bait after the involuntary reduction? Assume they think people will stay because Aviation will come back strong in 5+ years?
Bye bye Salem.
Well when you layoff a bunch of your people a few years ago, then try to call them all back last year, and almost all of them say "No!" that's a telling sign in my opinion. They all found a job after being laid off and didn't see Schenectady as being worth it to come back to. Schenectady's best days are very far behind it. I think those in their 40's and younger are in trouble and they don't even know it because they aren't thinking that far ahead. GE on the other hand is thinking that far ahead about Schenectady and I'm pretty positive that they have a plan. It won't favor the younger crowd.
It's hard working in Schenectady when you know it's best days are long behind. The place is lost, the past 5 or so years have been a total disaster. Most of the talent is long gone. It's just a matter of time till they pull the plug. Any long term employees with any sort of mental capacity know the day will come (sooner than later) that the higher ups will decide to finally end it.
Is the VJEP global ? I mean all businesses across power including nuke and steam?
GE needs to clean up whats left in Salem...the customer service folks, sourcing and the parts business day to day operations. That's 15 or so that can be laid off by the end of this month.
India and GVL have folks smart enough to take over what little the Salem team manages. Time for the "click" that remains to be forced out.....like the rest of us. Karma baby!

Real reason for VRIP for older employees is that is basically only way to get rid of them. If they layoff many older employees they get lawsuits for age discrimination. Thats why you will see all ages listed of those let go when u get your paperwork.
If the company is offering a monetary gift for employees to leave, especially long term, talented, and highly experienced employees, I believe the business is not looking well in the long run. Companies usually bite the bullet and retain good employees during a short term crisis so they can foster loyalty and retention in the long run. It shows younger employees they care, also. I hate to say it but this could be one sign that you can throw away your shades. The future doesn't look too bright.
GE is committed to make India great again! Just a matter of time. Labor is too expensive in the US.
If I didn't already know there was a pandemic going on, I'd think GE already disposed of 50% of everyone in the past month. Schenectady maybe has 50 people leaving at quitting time in the afternoon. It would be foolish to think GE isn't taking a notice to how things are going with the reduced workforce. Nonessential during a pandemic would still be nonessential during a financial crisis. Maybe the goal isn't to save GE but rather let it fail while making it look like there was no way to prevent it and be held accountable. They have the least amount of accountability to the younger workforce than they have had in decades. No pension, healthcare responsibilities passed off to other agencies, other benefits eliminated. Just a paycheck is all you get. The rest is up to you. For the older workforce, they are trying everything possible to get you to sign away their responsibilities so they are free and clear.
The notification was not targeted at individuals, it went to all of Power, apparently. Everyone I know received the email.
I'd stay until the end, imo. We all work for a government company. Been that way for decades. Take a step back and look at the bigger picture... war in the middle east within the next 2 weeks. You'll be back to work. Notice how the timetable for this 'lockdown' keeps getting extended? Now they are talking about the end of summer for normal travel. Not us though. We are GE, we are essential. Oh look, here comes the new 'preventive vacine' . Will you take the injection? If not, sorry, you cant come back to work. They will trim our workforce thru experimentation, provided you sell out just to remain a middle class servant. Do your own research on this relationship, you can piece it together I'm sure. Im out, gotta go scan my body temp to remain employed.
Does mean you are one targeted for a layoff if you were sent a letter? What are your chances when you've received such letter?
Standard VJEP package...one week’s salary continuation for each year of service. Does not appear to be significantly different from a standard layoff package.
can someone post details of the "package"
An accepted VJE by 4/10 is effective 4/30. I’d guess that gives HR time to assemble the list of involuntaries and notify them...so yes, another layoff is very likely within the next 2 months. It will s— to be seeking employment during a pandemic. A layoff now is unconscionable, given Culp’s recent statements about GE’s strong financial health.
This is a forewarning of what’s coming. Thanks China!
GE gas power
Which business within GE sent this?
Same, highly considering it with 15yrs in... boss said they were coming out mentioned and told me not to consider it. I’M CONSIDERING IT.
