Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

I just got word yesterday that we are being laid off. I work in Indianapolis in womens shoes. It's a commission plus hourly position. I

I'm really scared, as millions of other Americans are.
Is this just temporary,??? Or are they closing down all of the brick and mortar stores for good.?
I just cannot imagine them doing that.

How can a Macy's employee be asking this question?????? They've been very open and clear about what's going on. There's no excuse for being this clueless.

It's not a layoff. It's a furlough. Go back and read your email.

Is it a furlough or a layoff? I wouldn't be lulled into a false sense of security, but I wouldn't despair, either - from what you're describing it looks like a layoff, though, and that's tougher to swallow. This is not the end of the world, be thankful for what you have, there's always a job for you if you're alive and healthy.

Temp for most, if not all, of the stores. FT will be called back as priority over PT as stores open again, but even that won't be till the end of Apr or early May. File for unempl while you wait. Sign into Insite to read the lettrs awaiting you.

I believe that it is a good sign that we get to keep our health insurance. I think the intention is to call most people back to work to reopen our stores. I love my store and can’t wait to go back. I am staying positive!!
