Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

How legal is it for Macys to furlough vs layoff???

If the company furlough employees they don't have to pay them severance packages. So my question -is it legal????

Severance is not required unless part of a contract. They do it to look good and avoid lawsuits. Don’t expect it

You can’t furlough someone that has a severance package

google it:
"No law requires an employer to pay severance pay. The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) requires that an employer pays an employee whose employment has been terminated their regular wages through their completion date and for any time that the employee has accrued."

Well when Saks in 2017 for example was doing restriction- they payed ppl for 3 month. And here is Macys- to let go ppl without paying them. Seems shady.

My guess is in that covid19 policy. It may be in there. But If you see the email it says it will bring you back as a business is needed which basically screams to me they could just never call you back and that’s it and yes that’s legal
