Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

What exactly does an SSA do or should be doing?

What exactly does an SSA do or should be be doing? Ours sits in the old HR office and tells nearly everyone “that’s not my job” when they ask her something. The only people she seems to help are those women who are her friends. Anyone else she is dismissive towards and won’t help.

I went to ask her a question about this paid time off; I got a dismissive wave of her hand towards the computers as she said “it’s all online.” As I’m searching one of our pregnant cashiers comes in with the exact Same question. The SSA sits down next to the pregnant associate and helps her find what she sought.

Apparently their job is to harass employees when they say they need a medical leave six months away from now and find the smallest problem and criticize them. :)

Hattiesburg SSA does not anything except try to hook up her son with tons of extra hours. She screws up schedules, thinks she is in charge of things which she is not. But she does steal enough company time to rack herself up plenty of OT.

Scheduling and staffing? Who knew that’s what a SSA stood for. I didn’t know what ASA stood for either. I think it’s natural to assume that someone in the same office does the same thing as the person you used to be in the office. I’m part time, I work evenings and weekends. They don’t have morning meetings for us and Marvin has made email useless so the store managers can’t send out announcements. We used to know when we got new associates, not anymore. I’m wondering how long before we lose the connections forums that are so helpful in finding out things.

Have you seen the total BS that the customer centric dash board is? It's like shoveling people and hours around to fit the stupidest, most unrealistic, pile of numbers that do not even remotely resemble how the store us run! It's at least a 15 hour a week job. On top of everything else! Darst you to ask to see all they do!

The SSA does all the staffing and payroll. and about a thousand other things. It's a 70 hour a week job. The store Mgr and online hr are the only ones allowed to discuss the paid leave. Being pregnant is different. They are told NOT to get involved in the paid time off. Hiring is a 3 to 5 hour a day job, setting up interviews, d–g tests, follow through, orientation, then payroll is another huge chunk, ask to see the expectation, it's massive and in the West it's micromanaged, and a huge nightmare.

Imagine having to do d–g tests in this environment. Because I still have to. I have changed up the routine. But yes. Have to handle public saliva.

WE (because I am an SSA) are not HR. NOT ALLOWED TO ANSWER HR QUESTIONS. Or give advice etc.

Staffing and Scheduling are our directives along with a zillion other compliance issues.

My job is extremely hard. And I have to be almost a jerk frequently that I CANNOT take care of HR issues. PERIOD. I WILL BE FIRED FOR IT.

staffing and scheduling are CRITICAL for any store. If the MGT TEAM doesn’t support the SSA and kicks back these issues to the SSA, then the store will suffer. Fortunately my SM and ASMs get it and support me. If an associate cannot make a phone call to the ACC or put in a ticket? Shouldn’t be at Lowes. Ambitious I know for a corporate directive. But that’s why we have a call center.

They are just underpaid associates hired to do a job that the ASMs could do. Who needs a “scheduler”. It’s not rocket science, although some seem to have made it out to be. Really Dept Mgrs did the best job at it.

I think some of them spend more time on social media than anything else.

Scheduling and Staffing. SSAs schedule interviews, for d–g tests, initiate background checks, make sure new hires are all set up In the system, schedule and do orientations for new hires and “fix” the customer centric scheduling as best they can while following CCS rules, close payroll, manage delivery driver files (required paperwork). They are in no way HR. The only info they get on LOAs is the same info all the hourly employees get - the emails. They were not included in the training/calls that the ASMs and SM had on how to handle these new leave procedures. They can figure all of this out only by going on the MYHR page, same as everyone else.

Is this a trick question? Scheduling and staffing. Like their job title says...
