Medical coverage for laid off employees?

I heard MRO was paying the entire amount of medical insurance for a year for the employees they laid off April 30. Is that really the case???

Yes it was not a bad deal, at least MRO covered $2,019 ish a month and all I was left with was $85.00 a month for seven months of coverage. Also I do have a lot of dependents so no complaints here.

Well if $680 was all you had to pay for 7mo of coverage, that’s a pretty sweet deal!

No I am NOT lying and I am not the only one who has to pay for insurance coverage.

At money money money: you are a liar. “ You people are misinformed. Yes, marathon is paying 100 percent of the coverage for the remainder of 2020. The only portion you have to pay is if you were contributing to an FSA. Otherwise you pay ZERO.”

I just wrote a check a $680.00 to connect care for continued coverage of medical, dental and vision to cover my family from May until December. Of course after December, I am expected to pay $2,200.00 a month for continued Cobra coverage which is after the time frame of MROs coverage.

What about dental and vision? Paid by MRO the remainder of the year too?

Unless you are the lucky one that hasn’t received Cobra info, AskHR won’t return phone calls to laid off worker, Blue Cross, etc. Total lack of communication from MRO!

All active employee benefits were terminated at midnight 04/30/2020 with the option of signing for COBRA after 3 weeks.

That makes a lot more sense b/c it'd be super-dumb to ask someone you JUST laid off to turn over HALF of their severance pay for health insurance coverage.

I’ve been on MRO COBRA before. It is expensive. Unless you have a large severance package or a second income in the family you are better off with Obamacare. Nobody likes swallowing their pride, but the COBRA bites.

Actually, it s not the case, the total net income determined from your vacation and severance minus the total taxes which includes what you pay as an employee. Then on the last paycheck they withheld an additional 2% from your final paycheck. Then the cobra election states that if you chose to have continued care through MRO or chose to go the open market place for coverage. So you have to let them know your choice, if you choose coverage cobra through MRO then you need to pay them X amount which is 1/2 in my case of my last paycheck. I may sign up Medicaid, WIC and food stamps

I would say that was the responsible thing to do. Most companies will only continue to pay their portion, leaving the laid off employees to pay another three to $400 each month to continue coverage, which is fairly counterintuitive giving someone has just lost their income.

Not for a year, until the end of the year.
