Emerson started the firing of thousands of employees and contract laborers this past week. The package was dismal, one week for every year of service and 2-month medical coverage. Others who took the voluntary separation package a few weeks ago had $20k cash and 6-month medical coverage added to their package.

All corporate employees were furloughed for one week every month, 25% reduction in salary EXCEPT executives. Executives are too important to furlough.

All those fired are lower salaried employees and contract laborers while the highly paid executives who are all dead wood continues to receive their high salary, bonuses and benefits despite poorly managing the company's business all these years. All these executives have been with the company for 30-40 years. Chairman is good at protecting this group of employees.

Sad indeed.

You guys need to place the blame on a board of directors who should be looking out for the stock holder, but instead seem to be the roadie crew for the boy band. It seems that we can't even have a write in candidate for a seat on the board. Try looking at your ballot next time. I guess you need approval from some nefarious entity. The only thing you can do is not vote for their designate roadie. Does the board even know what Emerson does and what we are in business to do? That knowledge in itself might assist the company with an stock price that is on par with the S&P 500 and hopefully, somehow, we can better that. Course maybe FaRRT could learn a few things if he got off the Lear and rode with the common folk.

Its amazing that we have a company that prefers to purchase suspect acquisitions but wont even spend a dime on internal development. I would immediately be suspicious that the GLI propagated this stupidity, however,, I happen to know that it did not. As point I felt that most of what was taught at the GLI was ignored by the boy band and their minions in favor of a corporate culture that seemed to favor the M.B.A. mantra of the day, errr this generation of dead heads.

If we could even read of the ideas that our employees or maybe ex-employees came up with.

Emerson pays below average for 95% of the employees, the worker bees. However, for the top 5%, Emerson pays at the top range of the industry. Look at Farr, he is paid $20,000,000 every year on average. The top 5% of the company earns more than the bottom 70%. Throw in corporate jets benefits and a chopper too. Many of my co-workers have been laid off with meager severance. More to come. However, NO ONE at the top 5% have been fired.

Reply to corporate recruiter. There may be some Emerson facilities that are run well but they are being trampled under by the insanity at higher levels. Facilities like Stafford produce inferior products due to their insane devotion to lean manufacturing and metrics that only focus on getting it out the door faster.

Hey CorporateRecruiter... you want to pretend that this information isn’t plainly visible to all and you have to get it off this board? Open your eyes or get off the Corporate jet long enough to listen to real people. Emerson’s view is to pay below market to the vast majority of its employees, offer sub par benefits and 401(k), and then when you’re done with them throw them out for a despicably low severance. The arrogance of this organization is stunning.

Farr created a culture of fear and intimidation, no one dares to speak candidly. Everyone is taught to follow the process, not think. Emerson does not reward innovation. Emerson is a manufacturing company of very outdated hardware, not a technology company. People gets promoted for longevity and blind loyalty in the company.

Sadly, none of this surprises me. Farr is a huge contributor to the backwards culture at Emerson. Politics & fear rule over innovation. Executive brown nosing & shareholder dividends rule over strategy. And the four letter words are common place.

Also, it shocks me how many Ivy League employees end up there since profession isn’t really a priority. The Corporate office had a male-only executive fitness center until 2013. Yes, literally less than a decade ago. That tells you something...

The problem is that there is a group of guys jockeying to take Farr's place when his eminent retirement takes place. Guys like Ram and Bob are seeing who can be the most vicious in an effort to get an eye on them and get the nod. If either win, it will be a sad day for all of us Emerson stockholders.

You are right. Emerson managers are taught to obey the process that is archaic, the Chuck Knight way. Their focus on POR, this month and next month revenue forecast. Emerson acquired many companies to milk them dry and then they die. All you have to observe are the recent companies. Heard that Zedi is the latest company to be on a downward spiral after being acquired by Emerson. It was a great company prior to the acquisition.

You are right.
I was working in one of these acquired companies.
I joint this company more than 10 years ago, a very successful company, and I became an Emerson employee in 2017.
I had the chance to leave for a higher position in another company a few months ago and I have been very lucky.
What I have seen in my two years with Emerson is crazy.
In 30 years I have been working for different companies, big corporate, including American ones (tyco, pentair), and I can say that the level of Emerson managers is the lowest I have never seen.
Problem is that all Emerson managers have experience in Emerson only, so they know no other management style than the emerson one: arrogant, risk adverse, focused only on internal emerson "politics", focused on micromanagement and next quarter's results, unable to see the big picture, to define and implement a mid term strategy, totally not interested on what happens outside emerson (market, customers), unable to understand that it is emerson to follow the market and not the opposite.
And, finally, totally not interested in experience, expertize, skills and employee's motivation.
Result is that very probably my previous company will end 2020 will lose money for the first time from 1998.
But they do not care.
They will fire people and move jobs to low cost countries, destroying 70 years of history

Paradigm is the worse. After Emerson paid 550 million, their revenue dropped to 50 million. That's a terrible acquisition. Now, half the employees have been fired.

Recent acquisitions are worse hit. Heard that almost 50% of employees left or fired. Emerson does a poor job in acquisition.

This tracks. I looked up termination/leaver tickets. We're up to 1200 halfway through May. Historically, we've been around 1100-1400 for the entire month.

Farr, Lal, Bob, Steve, Mike, et al all need to go if Emerson were to be successful. Farr cultivated a culture where candor is missing as people are fearful of his wrath. He uses expletives, four letter word regularly. The executives at Emerson are taught to be good managers, not good visionary leaders. Visionary leaders have no place at Emerson and they leave.

Really sad. The dead wood are all over the company. They are highly paid, huge bonuses, get special benefits but they are nothing but administrators, good at PowerPoint presentations. They know how to protect their own jobs and take care of each other, not their employees, who are all dispensable.

As the saying goes, the rot starts at the top. Until and unless the top level are gone, the company will continue to be a very mediocre company.

This company has gone through restructuring after restructuring, year in year out. Before this layoff, the last layoff was in December 2019.
