Unemployment after severance??

Does anyone know if you can receive unemployment immediately after receiving the lump sum severance and WARN pay, or will they hold off until your specific “weeks” have passed before unemployment kicks in? Has anyone been down this road yet?

Can someone please explain what does the "non-compete" term means for getting unemployment benefits after getting the severance package?

Sounds like you have an I O U from Halliburton. I’d rather cruise with the Flying Dutchman.

I signed the agreement on May 12th and have not received any severance pay as per the agreement. Haven't received my personal belongings from my office either. Did receive the Fedex package to send the laptop and phone back though.

I was laid off by an operator back in 2016 and received a severance package. I remember still being able to collect unemployment immediately after receiving the package. Since it is essentially a "non-compete" agreement, I don't think it counts as working. There is a check box that specifically asks if the payment was part of an "agreement". Make sure you check that.

You should have already filed for unemployment for the weeks we were furloughed. Then call to switch it to laid off after your official severance date. I’ve gotten paid for the whole furlough period. As for the severance, no one I know has gotten it yet either. Unemployment told me to claim unemployment until the week you actually get the severance and then report it when it actually gets deposited.

Depends on your state but most only make you claim severance the week it’s paid to you since it’s paid in a lump sum. Texas makes you wait though.

You should get 2 weeks notice pay immediately. Then vacation pay. The severance comes maybe a week after you mail in a signed severance agreement.

Whoops, should of said 2000/2 weeks. Anyway you can ask for payments. Hal keeps track, and if they say you’re double dipping then most likely they’ll deduct those payments from future payments.

Laid off on the 4th and haven’t gotten any severance yet. Will probably have to take the tax hit and cash out my 401k. Bills still coming in regardless. Now I know how all the vendors that do business with Halliburton feel while waiting to get paid

I went ahead and filed as soon as I was laid off, you have a two week waiting period before you receive unemployment check, good thing I did because Halliburton has not paid severance fact is I asked a buddy that got laid off before me and he has not got his either and he has been laid off 6 weeks now

For me, they made me wait for equivalent time for severance pay to run it’s course. It’s actually a pretty good deal with Trump adding some $$. Been getting 2000/week

Beers for everyone!!!!!
