With our current leadership? We were doing badly as it is, I don't see us coming back from this mess unscratched - or at all. I think we'll be joining Toys R' Us very soon...

"even legacy brick and mortar retailers like JCPenney haven't gone bankrupt"
This comment aged well.
Yes, an American institution like Mattel is going to die. Just like TRU died. Too much debt and clueless leadership. Made up cost savings and zero innovation. Bye Mattel, we’ll read about you in Harvard Business case studies.
Listen, even legacy brick and mortar retailers like JCPenney haven't gone bankrupt, they are just having to evolve their business model. Sure, Mattel and other large, older companies take a little bit longer to adjust to changes in market, but do you really think an American institution like Mattel is just going to die?
It's not about bankruptcy or not. Everyone is waiting for some big ending but the truth is that Mattel can struggle on like this for years more plugging holes, throwing up smokescreens, casting something off, having a PR 'hit' big enough to live to fight again. So it's really up to you whether this is what you wanted for a career and if not move on.
Mattel will go the way of JC Penney, Sears, KMart, etc., old business models that cared not to evolve and got lost in the dust.
You can survive this. Mattel can not.
They will most definitely go bankrupt, take a look at their debt. The sales will go down, the costs will not go down in the same proportion. Although they could sell FP or AG, they will wait too long to do it and have no choice but to file for bankruptcy. They should be able to do a reorg bankruptcy though.
Too many assets to ever go bankrupt. Stop. Get a grip.
YES! Bankruptcy 2021, once top brass line their pockets a few more times!
It sounds like all of the profit goes to executives and zero to the shareholders. Not a great business model.
People have been predicting and praying for Mattel's downfall for the better part of a decade and they've all been wrong and disappointed. Sorry losers, the Mattel turnaround that's been promised since 2012 is right on the cusp of taking shape. Just give it a few more years, you'll see!
You are correct, Mattel is heading straight for that iceberg. Bankruptcy in 2021.
Am I right or am I right?
