They did not follow the original rules with my fiancee. He did his work at night, plus had to help unload trucks and he goes in tonight and they let him go. Some bs about paid for the day, his vacation and that's it. In the middle of a damn pandemic after 5 years? I think they are letting people go who are making more money. We're going to lose our insurance and everything now. b–tards. I hope there is a class action suit and they loose their nuts and bolts.

Unless they fire you for cause. Then you get zip. $0
Lucky.he got vacation pay. That's unusual to be paid if fired.
not sure how a "class action lawsuit" will take place for one person getting fired due to performance. anyway......what i am aware of is people being let go who have previously caused a lot of headaches but hadnt quite done enough to deserve firing. alot of those same ppl have used the pandemic to constantly get employees worked up...and management has sought to get rid of them because the workplace is stressful enough right now....
The company does nothing to reward long-term workers except pay them the same or less than the new hires. The current lead-duh-ship wants nothing more than cheap disposable labor to run their stores. Every single department in my store has half as many associates as we did just a few years ago. Long term associates who have demonstrated their abilities don’t even get interviews while Home Depot rejects and those with no experience are hired into leadership roles. Age discrimination anyone?
I'm not one to normally defend this company but there was probably more to the story than in the original post. Lowe's usually doesn't terminate someone for performance issues unless they already had a past track record of write ups. Yes, at my store numerous positions have been eliminated over the past couple years and some outstanding workers were unceremoniously shown the door with practically no notice (assembly, facilities, box-truck delivery crews and RTM to name a few). At my store many of those let go had more than 10 years with the company and one of them had 18 years of impeccable service with them. Many of those positions were later replaced with 3-rd party workers. Doesn't make anyone feel that the company actually cares about the employees or does ANYTHING to reward loyal workers. Push come to shove he should be able to apply for COBRA medical coverage but it is unlikely to be cheep. With the current corporate "leadership" (and I use that word very loosely) anyone at the store level should be considering their position as nothing more than a temporary job. Very sad as it didn't use to be that way.
Extra $600 with unemployment per week right now... And hopefully another stimulus deposit as well at some point. Also many states have waived the need to file every week.
Filing can be a PITA but once it's done you can have peace of mind for a while at least. And with no income I think he'd qualify for Medicaid as well so no cobra payment to think about either.
