Thread regarding Halliburton Co. layoffs

Reason for the furlough in Houston

Guys, do you think that the furlough in North Belt was meant to save jobs? While Laurence Pope was busy saving jobs with this "exercise" as he stated earlier, Halliburton and his goons had already selected the people they did'nt want. What better moment to lay off than when everyone is working at home. They just call you. go to the HR sign the papers and you are done. You dont really think that HR will be able to process 1000 people in just two days right? Of all the sneaky tricks Halliburton has done in the past , this one is the best one so far. For the guys still at NB please remember that when you work for a snake , the snake will byte sooner or later. Please move on!!!

If you didn't realize there would be massive layoffs once the furlough was over, then your head was buried in the sand if I'm being polite. The furloughs provided some value for everyone in a way. Management got to reduce costs and see what happened and employees got to keep their health insurance in a time which would have been impossible to find new work. Does it s—? Yes. Was the alternative worse? Probably. No public company is going to keep people employed if it's not profitable no matter what they say, period. It's not how any of this works. Everyone needs to be strapping in for the long haul because this isn't getting better for the foreseeable future.i

Also from the people who know, the lists got created 2 weeks in advance and HR made the packages the week prior.

Also part 2, Lawrence is a douche in case anyone hasn't yet gathered that

It's a pretty cynical ploy if it unfolded according to your narrative. it is certainly true that in most cases managers in a large organization are asked to make their lists in advance, so they are ready to execute if and when. In this case, there were warning signs upon warning signs that pointed to a steep decline in oil and the economy at large. So it could have been a little of both - the furlough provides an immediate cost reduction and buys time for the company to watch and see how the economy does. During that time HR and managers can get prepared. On the other hand, it's a pretty stark heads up to employees when the entire campus goes on furlough at half time and half pay. So that also buys time for employees to look around for higher ground. Each week off you were literally forbidden from checking e-mails or calls, which in theory frees up time for a job search while still providing some level of income. (None of this is to say this didn't s—. But there are worse ways they could have done it.)
