Thread regarding Bed Bath & Beyond layoffs

Just got the call

HR just called and told us we have to be at work on the 14th. Not all store employees have gotten calls. I’m wondering if they are bringing some back before actually opening.

We continue to make decisions informed by the latest guidance from federal, state/province and local government. As result of this guidance, we are announcing the extension of the temporary closure to the public of most of our stores until at least May 30, 2020. In recognition of that, we will be extending your furlough status to at least May 30, 2020.

We will continue to pay 100% of the cost of healthcare premiums for all furloughed associates who are not being paid and currently participate in the Company’s health plan, until further notice.

I want to assure you that we are taking measured, purposeful steps to resume normal operations so that we can bring our teams back to work. To help ensure our customers can shop safely with confidence, we are also implementing a new Customer Safety Plan, enhancing existing safety protocols across our operations, and based on the latest guidance from federal, state/province and local government and health authorities.

We will only open our doors to the public when we believe it is safe to do so, while carefully managing costs and financial performance so we can provide jobs and support in the medium and long-term. This approach allows us to continue to make strategic investments in our digital and fulfilment capabilities to build an omni-always service for our loyal customers as we re-open.

We will provide you another update on May 22nd and will notify you as soon as possible when we plan to bring you back into work.

In the meantime, thank you for your patient support.
