Thread regarding Collins Aerospace layoffs

Is it safe to accept an offer from Collins during COVID

I was offered a job in the Annapolis offer right around the time the layoffs and furloughs were announced. I’m concerned with all the news regarding the companies future whether it’s safe to accept this offer. My present position with my current company is not in jeopardy we are actually still hiring. Will I now be at risk if I come to Collins? I would really appreciate any insights from current employees regarding what the company’s status will be moving forward, do you think Collins can weather this COVID storm or will there be mass lay-off in Annapolis?

Rockwell Collins was an AMAZING company for which to work; Collins Aerospace, on the other hand...not so much. UTC Aero Systems brought their leaders in and destroyed RC's culture almost overnight, and Kelly shipped off for greener pastures. Their leadership suffers from analysis paralysis, and would rather navel-gaze powerpoint decks than make any actual decisions. Sad to watch happen to a once great company.

Whoever said Collins Aerospace has great benefits was either grandfathered into the old benefits plan or a shell for HR. New hires do not get good benefits in any shape or form. They generally have a choice of a really cut-rate plan or HSA. Most people are going with HSA because you get to keep the money when you're laid off. Be honest folks....

COVID-19 does NOT stay with you for the rest of your life. That is completely false. It is nothing like HIV. Stop posting disinformation.

I would pass. The Annapolis facility is poorly managed and toxic even in a good economy. With COVID layoffs are a given and without COVID you are still better anywhere else.

if it is a really good job like director level VP and you get 50% or more than take it.
Commercial aerospace industry is laying off people everywhere now but mainly the engineers, assemblers and other professionals. Executive level seems to be fine.

The Airline industry could be down for a looooong time (many years). This virus stays with you, if you catch it, the rest of your life, just like HIV. The "fearless" leaders are telling us it is OK to go and catch it so the herd immunity helps them to not get infected.
Best find a job in a different sector.

Collins is a really sound company. The airline industry is not going anywhere. Once we get this behind us it will be business as usual. With that being said when lay-offs have happened in the past the first people laid off are the last ones that were hired. So you have a decision to make. Other than that I love working for Collins, it is a really great company with awesome benefits.

Steve Timm (Collins Aerospace BMOC) just sent out a letter today announcing a 55-over buyout program due to Covid 19. In addition, his letter said that due to the current crisis additional actions may be necessary.

So... accept job at IMS Annapolis at your own risk.

If its government work you probably would be pretty safe, if its more related to the commercial space, it could be spicy.
