Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Now that we’re about a month and half into our furlough, how is everyone doing?

I’m sure anxiety is through the roof for some, but what are you doing that’s giving you peace of mind during this challenging period? Are you reading any good books, catching up on movies or tv, picked up a new hobby, or maybe have you found a new job?

I know people are worried about Macy’s but don’t forget to take care of yourself as well. You don’t need to keep up with every apocalyptic, doom and gloom headline, take time for yourself.

If anyone feels like they need someone to talk to , I was considering creating a channel on Slack or Discord where Macy’s colleagues could chat more freely. If there’s enough interest, I’d be willing to do that.

Alright guys, stay safe.

Maybe make friends outside of work. Your coworkers dont owe you anything and the world doesn't revolve around you guys. That person very well could be depressed right now. Dont let yor managers dump their problems on you in the future. Establish boundaries. I loved my coworkers but I could careless if I speak to them again. Sorry about your sick family. Hope that person get well.

Come on people, most employees think their managers and fellow colleagues are family members are family. We need to stick together to get past this. Macy’s is in a unfamiliar predicament and we need to stand by them and help in any way

Also they know I am not well off and that I have a sick family member. The person who makes 4 times what I make should reach out first.

Maybe the managers who dump their personal problems on me all the time plus asking me to do their work should grow up and text me to ask if I'm okay.

I'm not sure about your store. At my store we happen to have great managers.

I’m not sure what you expect from managers at Macy’s. Most can barely spell their own names.

I agree, grow up. Did you reach out to anyone in your store to say hello and check in to share a word of encouragement? Hmmm??

I'm waiting for my severance. To the person who's upset that people havent reached out to them, grow up. Everyone is going through a rough time. They probably have something going on in their personal life.

I'm going back to work May 4. A little apprehensive but the safety precautions being put into place are solid. I miss my job and the people I work with.

@kud+14Izcq72 OP here, I’m in a similar position. I work in receiving and have bent over backwards for my manager and the operations manager. I even once agreed to travel 40 miles (80 round-trip) to another store to help them organize their stock rooms. I thought I would’ve heard from at least one of them, but not word. My manager has had no problem texting me at 1 in the morning in the past. And I genuinely do want to return to my store because There are people I do like, but I also know it might be difficult to find something else here in New York for bit. I’m sure the first day back will be slightly awkward.

I am an office assistant of sorts... I am really disappointed how no one has reached out to me, even friends who don't work at the company anymore. I thought if they heard that everyone was furloughed they'd ask if i'm okay, but no. It's funny too how the people I assist suddenly have no reason to speak to me now that they don't need me to do anything for them... (Being in a subordinate position made me feel weird about contacting them first.) It's disappointing but it's all good. I won't slack when/if I get back, but I'm not having any illusions about relationships anymore. It's better that way–no more drama and b–ching all day long taking up my mental energy.

I'm spending my time reading and exercising.
