Still, even as Macy's reopens, it remains unclear how quickly consumers will want to get back to the mall. Or how much they want to spend.

A little over 45% of consumers expect to avoid shopping centers and malls even after the lockdown ends, according to a study by Coresight Research. More people will avoid malls than movie theaters or public transportation, it said.

“Fireside chat” is great. I haven’t seen so many softball questions tossed in my life. Is this JG’s best friend asking these questions?

Five minutes in and he is saying nothing. All 775 stores open?
JG is clueless

From a historic perspective, fireside chats were what FDR held on radio during the depression to reach out to the people and speak to them in a less officious tone and keep them informed but mostly to allay their fears that they were forgotten and things were tough but we were all working together to get to the good. He told the common folks they were important and a critical part of the recovery. They were personal.
This was not used to update the market, stockholders, politicians, rich folks or have the kabobs feel important. This chat should be for Macy's employees and their families.
It is the people (or what's left of us) that will get us up and going but we need true humble, selfless leadership to create that "can do, wanna do" atmosphere and "what do you need; what can I do" to help us get there- not necessarily not knowing yet what "there" looks like.
Unless the posture of this chat is a SINCERE 180 from the usual omnipotent- you are cat spit positioning it is perverse to call this a "fireside chat" and will have FDR spinning in his grave.

Investors will be wowed. Workers will not. Hence our stock prices on the rise of late.

Let's see. Paula is leaving the company the next day. JG will be as energetic and masterful and the last 4 times he wowed us to sleep. Probably wants to look real presidentialy before investors' meeting is a few weeks. This is about him, not us.

What is that supposed to mean? Is this bad or good? Is this about reopening again or closing more stores than anticipated?? Sounds pretty vague....
