I finally quit Union Pacific after waiting 5 long years for it to get better. I was a 12 year employee. I can't tell you how glad I am that I did. Going to work was starting to become a chore because of all the negativity. It was like attending a funeral every day. The stress of more with less, combined with a company consumed with greed, and lacking any empathy for their employees sealed the deal for me. I was doing the work of 3 Carmen. Wrapping around 118 car intermodal trains by myself, and dodging cars like human frogger with flat switching with zero warning. It was a tough enough job given the walking conditions before PSR, now it's just ridiculous. Do what's right for you and your family. If you can quit and find another job do it. You'll be much happier at work, and at home.

If I had options, I wouldn’t have been here in the first place.
Hope that you were above me on the roster.
There will be quite a few open positions coming up soon especially when the undertime fails. People are already looking for ways out, you know when someone has over 20 years and walks away from this place something isn’t right. The company is going to have fun trying to replace those they have laid off and will layoff in the next year because very few people will return to work for a $hitshow like this even if the management changes
FTx is gone you foamer. Go play with your
Model trains in your moms basement. Be sure to knock before you come up. I’m coming over
Zero man crews.
I’m not te&y. I work for a living.
They love to FTX at UP
3 strikes any your out of there
If you own stock in this company and you're not a top executive, you're betting on it getting worse for yourself as a lower level employee. You'll probably win that bet at the expense of your job. One man crews etc..
It would depend if you have stock. If you held stock for a while you’re worth more.
@1unk we'll see who is the stupid one is. Everyone knows, when you work for a company that puts it's employees last, you can expect the worst for years to come. Name 1 good thing that came out of "Unified Plan 2020" for the employee..
Did my year and got out. I only stayed that long because I didn't want to pay back my relocation package. Fortunately I had options.
@1unk thanks for demonstrating that those of us who left UP clearly aren't missing anything.
Byeeeeeee stupid
Good for you, Brother! When my MLOA runs out, I'm done! 9 yrs, & the first 5 were great! That last 4, though! The Precision Railroading BS did it for me. Within months of implementation, our shop got very stressful, people started backstabbing each other, trying to hold onto their jobs. The Managers and FGs were being pressured to write "tickets" for slight infractions. And then, it came to the "supervision's cull", which forced a lot of them back to their tools. I just heard, there's another round of layoffs coming in May and it's supposed to hit IBEW especially hard.
God Bless you guys, that are trying to hang in there. I just didn't have enough time in, for it to be worth me putting up with that B.S. I'd rather work construction, again...
Good luck with Social Security QUITTER
If you are fired by UP
There is a lawyer that sues the Unions
for not complying with their end of the bargain in representing you at a investigation. He's in San Diego Calif
Investigate........
If you don't speed up, they'll follow you around and build a case to fire you. I've seen it plenty of times. Small infractions become a big deal when stacked up. Everyone knows how the game is played. You put a target on your back, they eventually get you for something else, and you can forget about the cu-ko–d Union helping you at all.
Sure they can. They give you less time, and you do a sh–tier inspection because if you don't, you're fired.
Good luck to you in the future! I’ve been in the locomotive department for21 years and I’m considering the same thing. I’ve interviewed a couple times now and I’m just looking for the right job to come along.
One carman can only do the work of one carman. You can’t defy physics. That’s why they don’t need three Carmen to do the work than can be done by one.
