Thread regarding Sabre Holdings layoffs

Should people be looking for a new job?

What are the chances that we'll end up being called back and not just outright laid off? And considering how many people are losing their jobs all over the industry, it seems that getting a head start on finding a new job would be prudent. After all, there are companies that are currently hiring... Not many, but they exist.

I'm torn on what to do next.

I would be extremely surprised if Sabre does not aggressively look for ways to avoid paying severance.
Transfer people first like with EDS I believe it was many years back.

Very conservatively looking at 8,000 weeks of severance.
Management will see that money as better spent on executive compensation of some form.
Maybe retention bonuses.

You do know that if you find a new job, you don't have to quit Sabre, right? They will still have to give you severance if they lay you off during furlough, even if you are working full-time somewhere else.

I'd say, find a new job and wait to see if Sabre lays you off. If they ask you to come back, then decide which job you want to keep.

Of course you should be looking. Whether or not you accept an offer depends on a lot of things. Would you like to be unfurloughed? Do you like your Sabre work? Is your Sabre team a valued one/will it even be a part of the new smaller Sabre? Regardless of any of those answers there is no reason not to be looking.

The time to start looking was when they announced the 15% pay cut.

The second time would have been when they announced furloughs but no further pay cuts to CEO CFO CIO or board members.

If there is a good time to furloughed, now is the time. You get to collect the extra $600/week in unemployment benefits over what state pays as part of the 2T stimulus passed by congress. I will take my chances and make them pay severance before I quit. Keeping my fingers crossed that Sabre won't F@#k with that and let us go with some dignity if it comes to that.

I'm going to wait and make them pay me severance.

With the impending reorg in June? Yes, start looking elsewhere!

They want you to find a new job so they do not have to lay you off and pay any severance.

Presumably at some point in not too distant future once our access is turned off and we are not seen as an internal threat they will change severance policy to no severance,

Yes, this time to find job !!. It will take at least a couple year to recover back. We'll end up being called back to be laid off.

Even 1 month didn't pass since the decision about 15% pay reduction and now we have this.
If the market situation will not start improving significantly I wouldn't be surprised to see another drastic change within a few weeks.
