Having to go home at the drop of a hat is just part of being a temporary H1B worker. The sponsor doesn't want to lose the thousands they paid to get that temporary worker into the country though.

@bhw+14Cjoh5S lol. who the f— cares about h1b. if they have to go back or whatever per immigration law, then they need to obey the law. What sabre did is totally unfair–layoff/furlough americans but keep h1bs.

Thats the gig you sign up for when you work in another country. We all accept different levels of risk for different levels of reward.
If you dont like the risk, play a different game!

Consider how the deal has gotten worse.
Retirement - best deal. Vol sev - second best. Furlough - not good, but keep insurance and collect unemployment.
H1b will be next. Straight layoff. I'm not happy that peoples lives will be disruptted.
Sabre is a capitalist company, not an international aid organization.

Same on our team. 100% impacted, except H1b. A contractor, 2 QA, and a jr dev. I don't think they are equipped to KTLO.
I don't hate anybody. I feel sorry for all of us.

@qls+14Cjoh5S if you get furloughed , you get to sit in your own home with you family and file off unemployment and worry about your expenses for the next two months. If a h1b gets laid off they have to leave the country or risk becoming illegal in the us subject to arrest and deportation. And if they become illegal and CBP and INS is aware it, which is really easy for h1b because they are properly documented when they came in , then they are immediately put in a immigration hold which means they cannot leave the country while waiting for a hearing with an immigration judge. And during this process they are not allowed to work. If they leave voluntarily before a hearing then they are subject to an automatic 10 ban. A lot of these folks have been living here for decades. They have bought homes and have kids who are most likely American citizens who are going to school here. Imagine the kinda truma they will face . Their only option if they get laid off is to sell everything they own and leave the country in 60 days or find a job with the same job duties and their petition and an employer willing to sponsor there new visa. With most countries banning all travel even to their own citizens and most employers going into hiring freeze what will they do. What crime did they commit to be subjected to this inhummane treatement. H1b are also human beings just like you. They are all trying to do the best in a horrible situation trying to provide for their family. So when you come here and direct your anger at H1b , you look like either ignorant or downright heartless and evil. I understand you are going through a tough time but looking for a scapegoat to lash out and focus your anger on is not going to make your situation any better

furlough = a layoff. without having to pay a severance. most people cant handle 2 months of no pay. We all don't make c-level money here.

If you think of it in that light, then you would understand why not losing some of the visa holders upsets some people.

All the negative comments about visa holders or international offices I’ve seen on this site has been really unfair. This is a really hard time for everyone. But so far, no one has been involuntarily laid off, the company has been thoughtful about not just labor laws, but countries, and individual employees in America, who will have some kind of support if they temporarily lose their job. Some visa holders can’t be furloughed. Some can, but they wouldn’t be eligible for unemployment benefits or might even have to leave the country, and no one wants to travel right now.

Sabre leadership is doing their best to make sure the company survives and everyone can at least take care of themselves right now. Do you really want a bunch of H1Bs to be laid off and have to find a way to travel home and find employment right now?

As per your logic being American is a curse in America . Because its American laws that state H1b cannot be fuloughed. Not sabre laws.

70% gone but In our team they kept all H-1B visa holder. Although they are not the best. This is purely injustice . Being American is curse in Sabre.
