Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Congress learned their lesson from 2017.

Back then they passed a tax cut and companies like UP with record profits used the extra money for stock buybacks and laid off their employees.

This recent bailout for big business specifies any company getting aid won’t do buybacks while on assistance and for a year afterwards. Even if UP doesn’t get assistance at least they helped pave the way for a little more oversight of greedy, unethical CEOs lobbying for money from the government.

correct, but they specifically put more oversight in because of what happened in 2017 and they referenced 2017 as evidence as what happens when there isn't oversight.

No, the party that passed the 2017 jobs creating tax cut hasn’t changed. The balance of power in Congress changed. So that is why there was some oversight.
