Thread regarding Nordstrom layoffs

Will this cause more closings?

Nordstrom was supposed to close two stores for good at the start of April. With everything that's been going on, I'm worried that number might go up - significantly.

Not to mention that since the stores are already closed due to the coronavirus, it will be much easier to simply not open them again when the threat is over.

This pandemic was sudden and no companies had plans for this kind of worst case scenario. Nordstrom and other businesses will have to evaluate consumer demand as the pandemic subsides, but the economic damage rolls on. Nordstrom is a luxury retailer, not an essentials producer or retailer. During and after the pandemic, many families will be hunkering down on their budgets and finances, and will be using their money for essentials, not luxury items.

Nordstrom will probably not close too many more stores, but like many other businesses, they will have to layoff people

Good luck to all
