Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

COVID-29 Leave Policy Loophole?

I think despite Lowe's attempting to tell us we're all low to now risk for contacting this disease (what a laugh!) and using a lot of intimidating language, the policy is actually very lax when you steps back a few feet:

To use it you can use a doctor saying they advise you quarantine at home for two weeks. You might think this is hard since wouldn't you need to test positive for your doctor to recommend that? Uh, no. In places like California or Pennsylvania, everyone is already being advised to stay home for two weeks. So not exactly a stretch that regardless of your job your doctor would advise you to follow suit and stay home.

More hoops to jump through than at Depot, and that says a lot about the character of the higher ups at Lowe's, but it should be easy enough to totally sidestep their paper tiger.

Problem is this will last a long time. If we flatten the curve then we're looking at the tail end of this being in December or January. Even if we don't flatten the curve (which would be horrifying) it will only be over in September.

So we question is, when do you take it? If you take it now then maybe when you get back and the number of infected is six fold what it was when you left, people will finally start to take this seriously and not be milling around buying curtains. But there's no guarantee it won't grow six fold and have people still too dumb for their own good.

You're right, they did change it - they actually removed the doctor's recommendation reason. But if you're in certain states it's actually even easier - one of the allowed reasons is due to "Reason for Request Directed to Quarantine by State or Government Mandate".

So if you're in NY, CA and quite a few others it looks like you can submit with that as the reason.

With the store hour change they’ve also updated this policy.

California attorneys were on the morning news saying a company cannot fire you for not going to work due to Corona Virus Fears. They said the company doesn’t have to pay you, but if you have PTO they would be required to pay that.

Once again that was California, I can’t speak for other states.
