96% of all contractors at southwest have been laid off.
It's true, Southwest Airlines never had layoffs and we managed to avoid this business move. It looks like we are navigating this crisis well - we'll bounce back in a month or two.
Godspeed!
I trust our management will be able to avoid layoffs of employees.
I am certain, if they have to do it - it'll be done to save the company
Over half the the IT department is (was) contractors. This is exactly why. So they can effectively downside the workforce without "layoffs" for employees. But, this is so different and sudden,
I actually think this is bigger than any company and there will be no hiding here.
So, I think thread will not age well.
Just my opinion, based on a gut feeling - I have no analysis to back it up, nor I have any insider knowledge. I've been with the company for about four years.
Good luck all.
I am concerned too. I have trust in our management, they will do what is right
My dad was a contractor and he was just let go. He was in IT. Business is down 80% and they are burning tens of millions of dollars of cash every day - I do not want to be an alarmist but it'd be foolish to assume that things will this time be the same. This virus is something that we as a modern country did not see before so all past examples may be good prediction of what's about to come.
Wake up...
Just me and 20 other contractors I know who worked there for years. I guess it doesn't count unless it has employee on your badge....
