Thread regarding AIG (American Intl Group Inc.) layoffs

AIG RIF Notification?

How does AIG notify you that you are part of a RIF? Do they walk you out that day or give you 2 weeks or longer to find another job internal before your official last day?

AIG will notify you the same day and walk you out the door most likely with an hour of your notification and conversation with HR. Post ID @1gkz+143jf3RP has a good plan. If you suspect a RIF file an FMLA request due to the school shut downs. In NJ the Governor signed an Executive order banning RIF's during the virus emergency. The FMLA will protect you and give you some time to find another job. Not the best alternative but you need to take card of your family. Also make sure you understand the benefits package your due. It should be 2 weeks severance, plus 2 weeks per year of service capped at 52 week. Also immediately file for unemployment since this is a RIF and not voluntary separation. Good luck and get out soon. A good defense beats a good offense.

As a former AIG employee, I will share my RIF experience. There’s no advance notice. No timeline, just office talk between peers to be prepared. Then when you least expected, you get a meeting invite from your manager and HR rep. HR go through their script and at the end of the call, they will tell you it’s effective immediately. A few seconds after after the call, your remote access is deactivated. I was release remotely, so didn’t have to deal with being walked out by security. With that being said, I always make it a habit to never leave personal stuff, like pictures, at the office.

It’s pretty brutal. You don’t even have time to compose a goodbye email to your colleagues.

It is a pay week, hence a RIF week, will there be layoffs? Or is there a temporary stay of execution of a month or two because of the Virus?

Well there maybe RIF's next week, but there are certain divisions/lob that won't be RIF'd because they are now essential to help with the chaos of Injured Workers.

Only if you can spell it correctly.

AIG is a master at remote Rifs, too. Then they mail you a package to return your stuff.

Yes. AIG expects 2 week or more notice when you leave, but they don't extend to you the same courtesy.

They walk you out soon after. They don’t give you time to find a new job. If you know someone (on the expense team or admin) they usually have access to the list months before and might give you a heads up. But obviously that’s all dependent on your relationship with those people

They usually send it out the day before, ignore it and immediately apply for FMLA to care for a family member during this coronavirus outbreak, or if rumors are true u can apply for FMLA if school shuts down, it isn’t a permanent solution, but buys you some time and a chance to stick it to BD and PZ a bit!

Do they give you time to find another job or walk you out right then?

They will send a meeting planner. Your Manager will call you and then HR gets on the line
