Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Wal-Mart should be ashamed of their lack of PPE for associates...

  • during this coronavirus outbreak. The very least they could offer is unlimited masks and gloves for us to use and maybe a free bottle of hand sanitizer that we could put in our lockers, but sadly nothing. I wonder if this could be a OSHA violation? I realize we are not as important as healthcare workers on the frontline but nevertheless we are still exposed to the public 8 hrs a day (or whatever your shift is) to provide customers products they are needlessly hoarding.

Our masks and gloves have been sitting in the mangers office for two days. Don't know what they are waiting for. This is the peak week for infections and death in our area. Why are they waiting?

Wonder what protective measures are in place @ Walmart for pregnant employees besides taking 2 weeks off without pay? No PPE offered even though supplies are IN managers office? Walmart is choosing to take this liability in this event by providing a workplace devoid of health and safety! Are local managers in a position to deny protective equipment even if corporate orders it?

Cxmj,

Then you need to call ethics because you have bad local managers.

Home office 1000% does not want you or the customers sick. Beyond just having human decency, it’d be bad for the stock price and sales if it got out that folks got sick because Walmart didn’t take the necessary precautions and sanitize.

Just want to know what measures they are taking to clean stores. Our store has not had any extra cleaning. All we do is push the dust mop around. The bathrooms are not anymore clean than they ever were.

Toudm,

I’m nowhere near a VP. I actually started the company making $10 an hour, just so that you know.

I’m sorry that your job is in a place that is exposed to the customer and the virus. I feel bad for our truck drivers, medical workers, and factory workers, too. But being bitter at the home office because they aren’t on the front line won’t improve your circumstances. And, I sincerely hope you’re not the type of person who wishes ill on another human being just because your job requires you to take risks that not everyone is exposed to.

Put another way....you seem to want to “even the score” and “get back at” your home office support team. So say that you get your way. You get to make the call and get to put the home office employees (who mostly take orders just like you) in the stores and expose them, too.

Would needlessly putting their lives in danger make you feel better? If a few of them died, would that be enough blo-od to even the scales?

I think most associates working in the stores and supply chain understand that because of where their jobs actually take place, the level of exposure and risk is different from people that do most of their work on a computer. And just like any veteran or war hero, most of our associates wouldn’t advocate putting folks in the line of fire who don’t need to be there and have done nothing wrong.

I think it’s fine to offer constructive suggestions on how to do things better to keep people safe. And I think some of those suggestions have been put into play (reducing hours, hours for immune suppressed people, and they’re working on sneeze guards apparently).

But while you’re trashing the company we work for, I think it’s fair to point out all that Walmart has done already to try to keep folks safe and help them. At last count (before the sneeze guards and latest measures) they were spending $550M extra to help associates.

That ain’t chump change. That’s real money by anyone’s standards.

Wal-Mart isn’t a bottomless pit of money even as big as it is. It’s not invincible and this awful virus is not its fault. Right now Walmart is trying its best to take care of its people and the country. Because if it fails, how will people get food to eat?

So that’s why I’m proud of our team. We have teammates taking lots of risk (yes I recognize it) to keep groceries on the table for America. They’re literal heroes.

If you’re scared I understand. Therefore it is with no sarcasm whatsoever that I say if you can find better, safer employment elsewhere, you should do so and take care of yourself and your family.

But Wal-Mart really is trying. You can believe it or not.

@alpm

You've gotta be at least an EVP. "We're proud of you"......Uh huh.

How much face time with customers did you serve in the stores this week?????

That's what I thought. Until you people in the home office choose to turn off your computers and leave the safety of your houses and come out here in the real world, without masks, during this time of crisis you can get down off your high horse and STOP LECTURING AND/OR TALKING DOWN TO THOSE OF US IN THE TRENCHES.

Lip service is all we can ever hope to get out of the cowards in the home office who hide behind their title. I hope they choke on their ever-diminishing stock options.

Look, I get everyone is scared. But I think Walmart has done pretty good by their employees.

You get:
Extra bonus
Early bonus
Can decide not to come to work with no points given
Paid for two weeks if you get the virus

They’ve shortened hours to allow for sanitization.
Hiring more people to help

They can’t give you masks because even doctors don’t have enough of those. And they have to be prioritized for medical personnel.

How many cooks, waitresses, hostesses, hotel workers, busboys, etc would k–l to still have a paycheck and bennies right now?

We’re proud of you. And we are grateful. But Walmart doesn’t have limitless money and they’re doing what they can. If you have better options right now, you should take them.

You people are f’n ridiculous. You don’t really understand what is going on do you? Stay home if you don’t want to be there. Supplies are short. Nothing can be store used because there is nothing to store use. Nothing will ever satisfy you. Walmart is treating the associates tremendously during these time.

Our front end lead and coach don’t provide us self checkout associates any masks, hand sanitizers, gloves ☹️They don’t worry for our health as we r exposed to hundreds of people every day!!!!we can’t sit home!i don’t wanna loose my job! But worried for myself and my family ☹️

I agree that something needs to be done about all the families coming in shopping for non essential items putting us associates at risk! It’s 1 thing to come in and get meds, diapers, even some food but to bring in all the kids just to get out of the house, risking their health and others is foolish! We are in no way able to protect ourselves as nurses and doctors who can suit up! I pray the Lord just protects us all and that people learn to respect others and have care, concern and love for others through this to where it will cause them to stay at home till this is over

Well then, I guess 99% of the world is an OSHA violation. I'm sure OSHA will get right on that for you! Stay home if you're that bothered.

I would suggest that they limit the number or people in the store and to only let them get important things i.e groceries, pharmacy. We have whole families in our store shopping for socks and curtains or people coming and buying a bag of chips. This is not what stay at home means. If people don't stop the government will step in and make you stay at home.
It is impossible for us to stay at a distance with all these people

We should try to to let the mainstream media know about our situation and hopefully have them broadcast it on air to shame home office into taking safety measure for all associates.

PPE is to be made available for emergency personnel when they have a shortage then there should not be a request for nobody else they are truly on the frontline going into the fire Walmart has commited hand sanitizers for associates but due to limits on supply it has not been an easy task!
