at first this seems like a good idea but remember that many cannot pay their current bills with a 50% pay cut. So if there's a cut and you can't leave your bills, you have to QUIT and find a new job with no unemployment benefits. We toyed with this idea at HP years ago and we quickly realized that it would be better to lay off some people, then they could get benefits. Rather than everyone take a pay cut where most can't pay their bills and get NO benefits.

Its a noble idea and great if your finances can allow it. I don't think many could go to %50 cut and still pay the rent though.
