Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Sears and Kmart response to Covid-19?

When I look at the websites for Macy's, JCPenney, Kohl's, Nordstrom, Target, and Walmart, I see statements about these chains' responses to the Covid-19 pandemic.

I don't see any statement on the Sears or Kmart website. What effect is the pandemic having on them?

(To be fair, Boscov's and Dillard's don't have any public statements either that I can easily find.)

I work for A&E and all I was told was to stay six feet away from the customer at all times. I also got chewed out because I chose to send a bill to the customer rather than handle their credit card.

Kmart will not close , we are being told we are “essential”. Yet, they do not replenish the stores with the essentials, maybe 4 boxes of toilet tissue or paper towels...handful of sanitizer. Still getting emails about sales and credit cards...sure they send COD-19 FAQ bulletins, but it’s the same we would get from CNN. They just received a billion dollars , but nothing earmarked for employees. They only have 180+ stores total, yet there is nothing to compensate employees during this time?! The Store Managers and executives will still draw their salaries if they don’t show up to work. The character of our leadership is really showing now. They DO NOT care about their workforce or customers.

Sears/Kmart has no reason to post or make any statement, as they have no shareholders to kiss up to

They want to be the last man standing. Stores will close only when the state forces them to. They will also be receiving around 100,000 n95 medical masks within the next week, but they plan on selling for a nice profit at Kmart. Someone floated the idea of donating all the masks or helping supply hospitals, but that was dismissed since there's no money to be made.

Four of the five remaining Massachusetts Sears stores are in Simon malls. All Simon malls throughout the country are closed.

Of course Sears and Kmart will stay open normal hours. Fast Eddie probably believe with everyone else closed, ALL customer will flock into his stores. What a douche! I'm so glad I don't work for such an uncaring company.

The mall is closed but yet Sears is still staying open with reduced hours. At least at Massachusetts stores.

Many Malls across America are closing. If Sears is in one of these Malls, are you closing also or remaining open? What are you being told by management at this time about remaining open?

Transformco's customer base is so small that it doesn't matter all that much.

Stop with the BS. Every employee got a small bottle of hand sanitizer and we have cases in the breakroom plus more coming in on every truck. Clorox wipes for the cart boy to wipe down the carts. We have floor standing hand sanitizer dispensers at the main entrance, the restrooms and the checkout. Also we have nitrile gloves for anyone doing stock and for the cart kid. What more do you want?

They are not supplying any cleaning supplies for the associates. Stores are not being cleaned, they are barely cleaned on a normal bases. They just can't afford to do any extra. You would think they would shorten the hours since we were already at bare minimum with hours. Not happening!

Sears and Kmart stores have employed social distancing long before it became fashionable; customers avoid both like the plague.

They sent it via email, was about cleaning high traffic areas and such. While I could see Kmart shoppers being panic buyers I suppose it makes sense for Sears because anyone still shopping there probably already has been long enough that they’re on the SYW email lists anyway. There are so few Kmarts left it probably matters little anyway.
