Thread regarding Norfolk Southern Corp. layoffs

What do you expect from a company that Sues its own employees.....?

Integrity!!!???? HAH!! More like 'Tegridy! The sued a crew for running a red even though the loco had a nonworking PTC system installed on it. Then they said they were also suing "for the third parties" involved as well i.e the people whose land they screwed up around the tracks. How noble of NS to sue to make other whole. NS has the honor of being the first company in the US (maybe world) to sue its own employees for an accident

When a railroad sues you personally in an accident, it's usually an attempt to diminish the liability of a suit being brought against them. For example, if an engineer and conductor run a red board through their own negligence and then sue the company for injuries under FELA, the company might counter sue them for causing their own injuries and destruction of railroad property. Any jury award that the employee receives could be negated by the award the railroad receives against the employee.

If you are trying to support the
COMPANY and blame employees..... Let's get real, don't try and prop up the company and its activities as being valid no matter if you try to pin it on personal responsibility instead of knowing you are working for a corporation- the fact is the COMPANY is responsible for its actions and it's employees represent the Company- the buck stops and ends with the Company. When a company sues its employees it is actively trying to avoid its responsibility for it127

This is a co, that cares less about you , lets face it , the only reason your here is for a paycheck , after I leave here I could care less if we had a major chemical spill and many people were dead, it wouldn't effect me only the highly compensated ones

Are you’re eyes open? How have you made it this far in life? Yes mistakes are the primary reason one would have a lawsuit against you. This is how the process works. Welcome to life lesson 101.

I didn't know I could be sued for making a mistake. I always thought that making a few mistakes was part of being human. that's opens my eyes even more to the pervasive greed of these "people".

NS has lost all sense. Of course the crew can’t pay millions in restitution. Wouldn’t be surprised if NS lawyers try to twist things and somehow say the union or railroad retirement is liable for the employees actions and is therefore responsible for paying the bill on the employees behalf.

This is the equivalent of me suing my dog. They’re trying to get water from a stone and it’s entirely unrealistic to think this crew could pay the full damages on an NS salary. I totally agree they should be held accountable for not doing there job but the company’s approach is ridicules... I’ve lost wages because I was laid off... could I sue NS for the financial damage and hardship that they’ve caused me at no fault of my own... (probably not).. I hope they see just how stupid and what a waste of time and money this will be

No employees deserve to be sued by their employer for an accident, it’s bad business and precedent. It also tries to remove the burden of a corporations actions from the corporation itself and place it on workers who are trying to earn a living. Those guys have no chance to be able to pay whatever NS is suing them for, they will have to call bankruptcy to avoid it. That is called punishment/punitive action by NS to screw up some lives because they are upset they had to pay to clean up an accident. No worker deserves that treatment no matter what!
