Thread regarding Dean Foods Co. layoffs

Should the government take over? link to full story

How did Dean Foods get into this mess? Yes, there has been a decrease in the overall consumption of dairy milk as people buy soy, almond and pecan varieties. While true, this is only part of the story.
A complete telling of Dean’s financial ruin includes the processor’s history of corruption.
Particularly, Dean Foods has paid out millions in settlements for price fixing. Did they set prices to benefit farmers? No, in fact, it was just the opposite — Dean paid farmers as little as possible so that the company could turn around and then sell milk to retailers for super profits.

The Cap Times isn't quite as far left as the Daily Worker, but it's close and the solution in all of their opinion pieces is always for gov't take over of private businesses.
GM was also a totally different deal. Happened right after congress had given a trillion dollars s to bail out the bank and investment firms. Not bailing out GM after having giving all of that money to the banks would have looked bad politically. Dean Foods is small potatoes in comparison to GM and while the gov't is still spending like drunken sailors on shore leave, most of the money going to corporations is in the form of tax breaks and not direct bail outs. Tax breaks aren't going to do Dean Foods much good right now.

The government would be the worst choice to buy out the company. With how the government operates it would have to be subsidized just to make market rate and the product will be of even lower quality.

I have worked for Dean foods for 35 years. I am just now learning about all the corruption with management and I do believe the government needs to step in and purchase Dean and then get rid of the high paid corrupt executives!

The id–t that wrote this article doesn't have a clue as to why the auto companies were bailed out. It was for the Teamsters votes. The UAW has major political stroke in Washington DC
