Thread regarding ViacomCBS layoffs

This cannot last

My current "one job" is technically three jobs, multiplied workload from prior re-orgs. Because of this, I work till 9pm often and I don't see my wife or kids much.

So many people are in the same boat. It's ridiculous how this company thinks it can just cut people and leave their work for the rest of us to pick up in addition to our own. They treat us like we are robots! They just keep piling on until we break. Everybody leading this company should be ashamed!

Saying this isn’t the place to vent isn’t helpful. We’re all stressed and if we can’t lean on each other here, then where? I’d say it’s fair to place blame on ViacomCBS since it’s obvious they’re letting staff employees go just to save a few bucks/replace with freelancers. They take advantage of the permalance system to avoid providing benefits. Also, anyone saying it’s easy to go out and get another job clearly hasn’t been interviewing for the last few months. Speak for yourself and be kind. We’re all in this mess together.

Finding a job at CBS is not like the good ole days. 10 years ago you just needed to know someone or be related to someone (oh wait does that happen in this industry?) and that was it. Now you have to go through so many levels of screening and even after that good luck of getting the job. The whole entertainment industry is changing and everything is becoming more and more automated.

You know what has made Viacom a piece of C-ap , all those people with 15 plus years .
Look how they are getting rid of them . Have you seen it . Bad ideas , bad decisions .
The people with good ideas are forced to submit .
Those people try to save themselves and hire even worse people ..this company is rotting .
If Viacom manages CBS . CBS will rot also. Now tell me I’m lying .

There are people that work hard and devoted. But at the same nobody cares to hear you whine. Save that for your blog. For here let’s keep it somewhat informational. Info you’ve read, heard around the office memos or meeting others aren’t in etc.

Sorry to hear that you took on more work, but can you put all the blame on ViacomCBS? I've seen multiple annual RIFs during my tenure at CBS and had the same burden placed on me when teams were cut from 10+ people to 2. I handled it as I have always done in the past and made it clear that it wasn't sustainable.

Long ago a mentor once explained that if you are give 60 hours of work and always get it done, then you can handle more and they will give it to you. His advice was to plan for 30 hours because then you have to 10 hour buffer for "emergency" work, or training when times were slow.

why not looking for another job already? because many of us already spend long tenure here, and if we get laid off, we get a decent severance package, but if we find another job and quit, we get nothing. The job market is very hot right now, wouldn't be hard at all to find another job. Which makes me wonder about those who claimed to work the job of 3 people, if that is the case, you could have easily found a better job somewhere else if you are really qualified.

I see this posts all the time and can sympathize but makes me wonder why are people spending time on a forum rather than updating their resumes and looking for another job.
