Thread regarding Bed Bath & Beyond layoffs

Down Down Down

Everyone was warned to leave last couple years. This is the end of the road. Lots of other retailers hiring, believe in yourself.

Got the latest flyer, not much different from all the other ones in the past... same merchandise, same prices on most things except the items that are clearance. Nothing really special. To save the coupons is all the rage for me, should I decide to make my presence known in the store.

The ordering isn't the problem. The flyers they put out and send in the mail never reflect store stock, never did, and probably never will. I did they ordering for my department. I ordered certain things I knew would keep the department in the top ten in sales and ordered less of the other items just to have in case. The other problem is where to" plan o gram" the merchandise. I know where merchandise should go, apparently, whoever does the POG's now can't fathom the wrongness they ensue. Also, with the conversion of fixtures in the stores, less merchandise can go to the floor, And the stores don't order enough stuff to fill, and no associates to do the filling. I remember 9 years ago when ordering, I had over 180 pages of SKU's I could order, before I was let go, I had 35 pages, of which I could only order 40 of the items. Less merchandise means less sales!

Honestly, donating holiday merch is the smartest thing BBB has done with merch in years. The entire time I was there I was dumbfounded at the idea that BBB would constantly pack up, put out , pack up and put out the same merchandise that didn’t sell the last clearance event. Housing clearance is a sure fire was to lose money and productivity. If you couldn’t sell it before, what makes you think that you’re going to sell it next event. Holding onto replacement mop heads for casabella mops that seems discontinued and not one person has any use for anymore was crazy. Even at 90% off no one will buy it. It’s smart to send it to a liquidator or donate it so that way, managers and associates aren’t wasting their time moving it from place to place. For all BBB employees that have been around for more than 2 years, think about how annoying it was when we transitioned duvets and print bedding to not have banners and the amount of clearance you had to find a home for...
Getting rid of clearance in a very timely fashion is what they've always needed to do in order to bring in fresh, new merch that a customer might actually want to purchase. New merch that might actually make a customer want to come back to the store. That being said, their business model is still trash and there is absolutely 0 reason for someone to make BBB a destination because they have nothing that only they have. Walmart is successful not because of customer service and impactful visual merchandising... it’s because of their value to customers and their convenience to their customers. If it were all about customer service people wouldn’t shoot there. Target is successful because of their brand loyalty that the new ceo of BBB had a massive part in. But sadly..... BBB doesn’t have anywhere in the store that can build a consumable type of brand loyalty. Wamsutra is sort of a household name, but 1.... no one even associates wamsutta with bed bath and beyond sadly and 2.... even if they did, you don’t go in every week or two to replace sheets. So it doesn’t matter. I hope it works for BBB because I still have a lot of peers working there, but sadly the writing may be on the walls in sharpie, not dry erase marker......

I just do not get it. how much are they saving by laying off part time help? I see a ton of waste every night.

If your going to have a return policy, stick to it. there are too many unnecessary returns happening because they customer yells and complains and reports it to Corp., which will force us to do the return.

There are less people on the floor so now there is more theft and people are opening products, damaging the material and or stealing parts.

Why donate all the holiday merchandise, keep marking it down to get at least something for it.

Why have managers stand at attention on the front end when busy. Get on that register and help.

Get rid of that Bridal desk, this is where the managers/seniors sit around and b—s—.

Streamline the MOS/Damage/Transfer process. too much time is wasted.

I can go on and on.

Definitely not good news today. The market articles are all negative. Hang tight everyone and good luck. New fiscal year just weeks away.

I wonder what their “bold” plans are that they just talked about in that press release today. How great, tell everyone early how bad we failed in 4th quarter so that when they announce they are closing 150 stores to be bold and reinvent the business and it’s portfolio.
