I’ve made peace with the fact that this company doesn’t have anything good to offer its employees, at least not with this leadership and this philosophy in place. No matter how bad the situation is at a certain company layoffs always come as a shock and with a sense of personal defeat,but I got to be honest, the only reason I hope I’m not getting laid off this time is to continue being in the position to grab a few more paychecks before I find something else.
Seems funny from this perspective when I remember how lucky I felt to survive all of the changes and shifts at the company. All we got from that was being duped with the work of all the people that were cut or as entire groups were cut or merged with others. I have no doubt that this time it’s going to be the same old story, only on a larger scale
No point feeling lucky about being overworked with the same c-appy salary while still having that sense of fear that next time it could be us.

I bailed out last summer. Those of you based in DC should definitely look around- the job market is hot esp in Northern VA with all the tech companies moving here for proximity to Amazon. I make more $ now with a more flexible work from home schedule. Brian is trying to run CareFirst like a for-profit company, so at this point you might as well work for a for-profit and actually get compensated for your stress.
Advice from the outside - find a new job, even if its just a stop gap while you look for a better job. You will be happier in the long run. Know this, no company cares about their employees any longer - they're bringing on more and more contractors who don't get benefits and can be let go at a moment's notice. Did you carry over the coveted PTO? Give your two weeks' notice and use that cash out to take some time off because you need to recover from this toxic environment you've found yourself in. Take care of yourself because the company doesn't care if you're depressed and burnt out. Put yourself first, not the company.
Hey no worry - when you get fired to fund a build out of a incubator for clueless grad school students and buy unprofitable medicare plans, and start an unprofitable medicare business you will feel much better.
