Thread regarding ViacomCBS layoffs

Rumor has it that ViacomCBS has purchased the HBO broadcast center on Long Island

I know CBS was interested in purchasing the facility even before the merger. I’m hearing that it’s a done deal and they bought it. Anyone else hear that? What do you think that means? Viacom already had one a few blocks away.

It's long been known that CBS is planning on closing the broadcast center in NYC. The bones are as old as a facility comes and the cost is exceptional

The HBO facility is close to brand new. Renovations have gone on for years in that campus. There are two main buildings, with 2 data centers in one and numerous other smaller data centers in the original building. The old building just had a major renovation done with all new seating downstairs, new server equipment rooms, editing stations, sound room, etc. There is also a NOC and TOC on the main floor in the old building. The newer building has one data center with roughly enough room for 100 racks and the almost commissioned second data center could probably fit 30 racks, give or take. There are also numerous ISP connections coming into the facility with ATT having a 20 gig burstable to 40 left over and never used. Lastly, there are still the satellite dishes that are still there although I cannot speak of those as I don't know much about them.

Not everyone that reads these posts are in the same department or at this time the same company. This is a useful tool to see what others are hearing. Some are actual facts others just rumors. Attacking coworkers is petty and useless. Everyone is upset and nervous about our future the least we can do is be civil and understanding.

Why speculate on everything? How does that help anyone at all? Mergers happen, people lose jobs. End of story. Happens to everyone. Get a grip, people. You can’t come here for info if it’s not really info. Just speculation and ignorant guesses. If you have the same job for a long time and just want to keep it, you need to wake up. Move on and stop being scared little babies.

I’m not quite sure what the previous post was trying to convey. Just rambling on doesn’t help anyone here looking for information. As for the Nashville DR facility that was shut down some time ago. Viacom is also in the works of shutting the Amsterdam broadcast facility which acts as a DR for London. London will be Hauppauges DR and Hauppauge will be London.

They may also close down the Nashville DR site as part of the restructuring so those functions being done there could go to the new site.

The HBO facility is newly renovated. Minimal work would be needed to fit all of shotime, cbs and Viacom channels and still have room for more. The Viacom building is old. Only the data center is new. While Viacom may keep their facility and update it for a larger data center and lease remaining space to others, the channels would most likely all go to the HBO center. Keep in mind many jobs will down sized in this process. Sure some may come from those unwilling to work out in the middle of nowhere Long Island but not enough to save those already at the Viacom NOC or the Showtime employees at speedcast for that matter.

Closing down Viacom NOC center and moving them to HBO comm center doesn't make sense at all. Viacom owns the NOC center facility, why closedown something that is operational and move it to a building that still needs to be refitted? If anything they might move Showtime BC out of the leased space and maybe combine it with the CBS BC into the HBO comm center building and free up the space in city

Who the heck is Felicia? Thanks Mr. Lingo. CBS Studios hasn't sold yet in NY. Relax.

It means the long overdue closing of the NOC will happen. Why would they keep two facilities when the one barely did anything?Combine with HBO and Bye Felicia! Nobody wants to commute to Hauppauge in the first place. They’re not sending more people there. Already sold CBS studios in NY too. Hopefully the bad ideas and thoughtless people are gone first.

Yes, might not be a done deal yet. However, it has been a known thing at existing Viacom NOC for a bit now.Thinking is, moving showtime out of globecomm facility also in hauppauge, into HBO center. As well as some of, if not all Viacom networks and some staff currently at existing NOC moved into HBO facility. Since the data center was moved to existing Viacom noc not that long ago, pretty sure they would keep that going. Many jobs currently at CBS BOC could be housed at HBO as well. So they would most likely keep old NOC and HBO center. cbs news and sports studios would be housed in NYC I would think.
